Any one have an estimate or guess of how many of the 61 or 62 fj40 FST's were imported into the US. I have seen the estimates for how many fj40's but not broken down by model. I am curious how many of the curved door openings on an FJ40's there are. I saw on some other site an old post there they thought only 5 or 10 of these fj40's were imported the rest were hard top models. Since I have one of the FST's I am real curious if anyone has a better guess.

I do not know, but I would find it hard to believe that they would have imported so few FST models...I am sure it is considerably higher.

BTW...as far as I know, the round door FST was until '63 some time

Probably those were also 61 62 being sold as 63's. I have only seen 2 or three other fj40's with the curved door openings but quite a bit more of the hard tops with the square opening and the post for the top. Sadly seems like this makes these more rare and worth even less, maybe thats why I could afford a junky one.

For what it is worth...I have my cruiser because I like it, and enjoy working on it, so I never think of its value now, or once completed.

I think you got a good deal because older cruisers are not in the mind of the general population...hell even cruiser owners don't really want them...but I am like you...I would love to find a '61 - '62 one day after the '64 is on the road...and I would keep it all stock...but I am a far way from this happening :frown:

2x on that, this 62 will be my pride and joy no matter how it turns out, and it is going back to vacuum switch 3 on the tree, just like the one I drove when in high school. It is 100% about having an old mostly stock fj40 that I hope to drive foreever, so value is meaningless. Curiosity still makes me want to know how many other's there are in the US.

I have picked parts off of one in a junk yard and have a very clean tub from a 62. The tub I have has barn doors on the back which is even rarer than the regular soft top models. Probably get at least a dollar more for it. Don't believe the numbers are that much less then the hard tops. As the years went by Toyota imported a smaller precentage of the soft top models. 77 being the lst year you could buy one in the US.

Would have to dig out my 63 microfiche to check it but I think the 63 soft top model still the earlier openings. Besides the door openings there were other things that made it a soft top model. It wasn't until later in the sixties the FJ40 were setup to install either a hard top of soft top. Any early soft top model would not have the fixed nuts in the tub to secure the hard top.

Edit: Just remembered I talked with a guy who was selling his 62 soft top. Sean (67cruiser) has a 62 also.
