During the summer months it's kinda a normal thing for a stock timed 80 to spark knock a bit at low, acceleration. To help fix this and add just a bit of kick, you can advance the timing a bit. So mine's a knockin' and i would like to fix this.

Does anyone have a timing light they wouldn't mind letting me borrow for an afternoon? I will take precious care of it and return it as i received it.

You can also retard things a bit with the summer mix gas change by going to mid or high octane.

I did that for a while, and it does help. Only problem now is with gas prices it does start to hit the wallet. :frown:

hey al___ i think dad gave his up to Mr. Joe. maybe if i entertain him with the story of the soda bottle spankin hell give it up for a day or two. no luck w/ Ray or dale?

Ray doesn't have one, Dale does, but since he's a fulltime mechanic i imagine i would kinda need to pay him since he would be taking his time away from paying customers. He's not the kinda guy that will come in after closing time to help.

See if Mr. Joe still has his. Oh, and be home today so i can get that winch in.

You sure you don't have things backwards? If you're knocking at stock timing, advancing would make it worse, going to mid-premium would help, as would retarding the timing.

I had some pinging from the summer gas and went to mid and it is good to go again.

I may be incorrect, but i thought all the readings in the 80s tech said to advance your timing from 3 degrees to 5 or even 7 degrees? I will search again.
