Last couple of times I've gone in to the rear hub though, I haven't even needed it. I loosen the set screws and the hub comes out pretty easily.

Ended up out at Cheeha with the fam today. I'll pull the axle later and see if I will need it after all. I'll get with you tomorrow if I do. Thanks
Is the rear hub socket the same size as the front? if you can't find the specific 54mm hub socket then you can get a 2 1/8" socket at sears and it fits just fine. Thats what I used when i got into my front axle last week. worked perfectly. Comes in 3/4" drive so probably get an adapter.

I got this handled. It is a totally different socket but I am just going to improvise.

So, as I said I never need it... tonight I had to use. LOL. It was TIGHT.
Sheered my hub studs this weekend and was able to get 4 out. 2 won't budge, even breaking a medium sized easy out in one drilled hole. So I removed the hub, it's going to a drill press tomorrow. That'll learn it.
I have to drill out the dowels as well. I'm going to tap the 4 spaces and run grade 10 bolts in those spots around the existing new 6 studs. Can't do all six locations since there are extracting holes that are off-center in those spots. Dang it.

Sounds like fun....not!
Is it worth putting small tacks on the stud and building it up till you can weld a nut on and back it out? The heat from the weld should loosen it up. Tight space though.

It's a TIGHT space. Run the risk of messing up the threads. Easiest to just drill them out. not sure how I managed to pop an easy out. And I was using cheap drill bits, so no wonder I kept breaking crappy HarborFreight bits.

Rear hubs is done. All grease was washed out by gear oil on both sides due to that little seal in the spindle. I'm not so sure that it matters though as they end up in gear oil and the bearings were fine.
