We are going to sell my wifes 4runner or trade it in possibly on cash for clunkers($4500). She wants a Venza.
97 Toyota 4runner SR5
Original owner
V6
Auto
4wd
Stellar Blue Metalic
Grey cloth
185,xxx miles
Sunroof
Cargo cover
Running boards
Tow hitch and wiring (used twice)
Timing belt was done approx. 60k miles ago
The valve cover gaskets have begun to weep.
New exhaust from header back including cat (stolen)
Brakes have been redone in the past year or 10k miles
Needs both o2 sensors, I have an OEM front but it also needs a rear
Exterior is in pretty good shape for the age. The chrome bumpers have begun to rust from the inside out. One stone chip on the hood has begun to bubble. It could be sanded and touched up. Add a bug deflector and it would be hidden. Some other minor scratching and a ding or two.
Interior is in decent shape also. The drivers seat is worn and the cushions are worn. Passenger and rear are good.
Right now it has FJ Cruiser wheels with 265 70 17 Terra Grapplers on it, those will be switched to my 4runner and you will get the 04 4runner Sport wheels and tires from mine. Lots of tread on them, about 12000 on them total.

This would be a great reliable truck for a new driver or college kid.

So I guess we would take $5000 for the truck.

Marty, Sorry to see it possibly go.

Mines in darn near the same shape, 150K miles. 97 4runner. Just did the timing belt.

I toiled with this before we bought our 08 Sienna. But I hate the idea of a fine running truck having the engine blown on purpose and the rest dismantled.

Gotta photo of what the FJ cruiser wheels look like?

Good luck with it.

i'll get a pic for ya soon. It actually looks really good with the Cruiser wheels. It really is too nice to get crushed but it seems like it might be the best route.

It is on craigslist.....It does suck because it is still a nice truck. $4750 buy this thing.

Well from what I have heard around here, The motor gets blown on purpose. Then its sold off to the bone yard. Federally speaking the motor has be be disabled because thats the environmentally damaging part and needed to be in there in order for congress to pass the bill. but the rest of the parts are "okay"

My only hope is that the good stuff is parted and the skeleton gets melted.

I have not checked my local yards for any new Toyotas coming in. (had 2 last time)

I did however see a news clip of a Cherokee and a Explorer being crushed. Didnt even take the plates off of them.

from a junk yard perspective, you would be getting at least some decent cars, fully intact with only a blown motor. Much more money in resale of those parts than in the scrap price.

Thats it though,
These will be sold with scrap only titles, For the record in most states there are two seperate types of title on a salvage vehicle. There is a parts only title which means you will never be able to register the vehicle for road service again and a normal salvage title. From what I understand of the program the traded in vehicles will all have parts only titles. The difference is that a parts only title generally brings in less money than a rebuildable title.

You guys could just buy this and not worry about it.
karl..you can start building this for your boy.

Little 3" coilover lift, 35" tires, sliders, bumpers, 4.88 gears and Inchworm box. He would be all set.

Did you cash that 4Runner in yet?

C4C ends Monday last I heard.

3 billion in less than a 5 weeks....thats a nice pace!

Actually, Kings Toyota is giving us 4,500 on trade. No crushing for this 4runner. Works out better for usse we end up with a tax break also. Somehow we ended up with a Camry for now, unless I talk her into a Tacoma. The Venzas are hard to find. we get a pretty good no bs deal on new Toyotas since jenny's dad works at the Georgetown plant. We have to keep it for a year.
