Curious if anyone else has tracked their cost to maintain the LX. I don't include oil changes and gas in my costing as I think those are more operational costs but I do keep track of all maintenance Parts & Labor; more like a maintenance log.

In roughly 38000 miles of ownership, I am at $.05/mi. grand total. This figure includes $1300 of items (90k service and tires that needed replacing) that were used as price negotiators that I basically did not pay for.

Once the maintenance that was deducted from the purchase price is removed my current maintenance cost is slightly over $.01 per mile so far.

Just passing it along and wondering if I am alone in doing this?

I always do that, I have had my 100 for eight months and 16k and right now even with the intial $1,100 service and the 60,000 service I am at .125 cents per mile. If you take out the intial repair work (brakes, general checkout, alignment, balance, etc, etc.) I am at .056 per mile. I think that is pretty good considering it is a 98 model. It will probably continue to go down in cost, even past 90k. I hope to have something to replace it as my DD sometime, and stop putting so many miles on it.

Good feedback; thanks!

I purchased a one owner 2000 LC in Dec. 2003 with 107kmi for $20.9k. All the maintenance records including oil changes were documented on the printout from the dealership that performed all the scheduled maintenance and repairs. All scheduled maintenance had been performed except the 90k timing belt replacement. Here's the maintenanc cost I've incurred to 130kmi with DIY labor (oil and oil filters not included).

How much grease are you using? I haven't been through 1 tube in 1.5 years (about 5 pumps per fitting every 5000 miles, after putting 20,000 miles on mine)?

Check with CruiserDan at American Toyota for parts, BTW. I just bought a pcv and grommet for $6.51 total, plus a few other discounted parts.

And I think you have to include tires in the maintenance cost, since they do wear out with every mile you drive, just amortorize them over the expected life of the tire (40,000-50,000 miles or so).
