Anyone dimmed the AOB/Cruiserheads switches?

I remember posts talking about people wanting to dim the aftermarket LED switches a bit, but I can't find any posts about it. Has anyone come up with a decent solution to help dim the light a bit to better match the brightness of the stock switches? I would assume maybe the right piece of tape over the lights (behind button) that allows some light through might work. Just thought I'd ask here first before testing things.

Yes have seen that done with some black cellophane or tape. I believe there is a post about it somewhere here. It appeared to be a good match and seems a good idea but have never got around to it.

I tried, and failed.

I bought some dimming stickers, and popped the switch faceplate off, but it's not smooth inside so I couldn't apply the sticker to the inside of the switch. I probably could apply it to the outside, but I thought it would look cheap.

I tried using a sharpie to darken the inside but that didn't seem to do much, either.

In the end I gave up, mostly because they weren't actually that bright, IMO, and because the 4 switch panel on the right side of the steering wheel is obscured by the wheel when I drive so I don't see them anyway.

What about tinting (coloring) the led itself?

At that point I wonder if one could just replace the LED? I'll take a look later as I have a couple spare AOB switches. I already had to do a minor operation on one as it didn't work out of the box and I found (and fixed) a lifted solder trace.

Where was the lifted solder? I haven't installed mine yet. Hopefully they work out of the box.

The odds are yours will work just fine. I haven't had any other issues with the AOB switches and I'm using 6 of them at this point. About six months ago I was wiring up my camp lights, hit the switch, and didn't hear the relay engage on my relay panel yet all the other relays and switches worked fine. After some moderate debugging, I determined the problem was the switch and not the circuit.

I popped open the switch and noticed the solder trace was lifted off the board and it had broken. It was consistent with what I'd expect to see if there was a short that wasn't caught by a fuse, yet there was no burning or other signs of a short. I chalked it up to a manufacturing defect, soldered a jumper over the trace, and voila -- it worked just fine.

During that process the LED was exposed and the circuitry is pretty simple. I imagine an LED swap would be short work if only we had an LED that matched the stock switches. Maybe I'll buy a replacement stock switch to see if I can learn more?

Right on. Let us know what you come up with. I'm looking to wire mine up this week and I do enjoy breathing flux smoke.

Thanks all. I might try some things, but it's not a huge deal. Just wanted to get some thoughts on it.

I wrapped my tint stickers around the LED itself. Worked pretty well, still on a year later. Believe I bent them up, wrapped them, then bent them back where they were. Also colored the inside of the switch with sharpie as much as I could.
