Searched, and found a few people commenting on them in the 80 forum and here, but none too recently. Am considering because of good reviews of rain/snow traction and road handling compared to BFGs. Also considering 265/70r18 as a good compromise between size and gas mileage/braking ability, given that 95% of my driving is on road, and the other 5% is mainly farm, camp, light trail- i.e. not something that would require regular airing down. Any thoughts?

Also, side note, the secret service and capitol police dignitary protection folks use these on their suburban 2500s, i walk past them every morning, seems like a good advertisement.

I've heard good things about the Silent Armors, though I haven't run them personally. But based on the tires that I've run, if you're wanting more of a road tire, I'd say look at Michelin M/S or A/T2's. They last forever and the ride is great.

Thoughts - Good Year was the lowest responsive bidder.

AT2 and M/S are a better choice IMHO.

May be the lowest bidder, but I would be surprised. They're pretty expensive tires.

I've heard great things about them in general. And I remember one or two people on here seemed to like them. They were my first choice, but were much more expensive than Terragrapplers. So I saved a couple hundred bucks and went with the Nittos.

Go on tire rack and put them in based on the size you want then look at the graphics comparing them with all the other brands, you can also see owner comments. I can tell you that the Michelin MS2's are the top rated in the LX/LC sizes. Now you need to decided if you want MS or AT/KO's? If you are doing much deep snow or off road you are into the AT/KO's.

I'm using he Goodyear silent armors and love the traction. They are LT rated and a little stiff. For the amount of highway driving I do I would probable select a P rated tire next time

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

I have silent Armors on my super duty. For the first 7/32 of tread the traction was good although they wore rather quickly, and we had to rotate them every 3000 miles to keep them wearing evenly. As soon as I hit 11/32 tread remaining, the winter traction bit the dust and I just swapped them out last week for dedicated snows. I'll probably run Michelin LTX AT2 next summer. The white lettering is also VERY susceptible to damage with even the slightest bit of contact with a curb. I would buy something different next time.

Hmmmm. thanks everyone- i think i may ask the shop to price out some Firestones ATs as well- per SWUtah's suggestion of using tirerack, they seem to be highly regarded. And i have heard about the lettering, and seen it, which is why i was going to go letters in.

And a bit of a mea culpa on my part- made it a point to check this morning, since there were wide selection of agencies/groups represented, seems like a mix of bridgestone duravis, goodyears, and a few firestones mixed in. So who knows why anyone chooses what they do... its not like we have a concise system for any other decision.

Anything but a 285 BFG AT would make me happy happy happy. Slingin SB2 gravel the way BFG's do is unacceptable but it seems many folks still roll em.

I've always had good results with the LTX M/S. My last set were replace do to age and had plenty of tread, just too old and started showing weather checking on the sides.
I went back with the Michelin, but with the new MS 2's. The tire was only a month old and went wheeling up a rocky trail and chucked a piece of rubber (block of tread) from the center of the tire. No big deal as it's never happened again- and probably just dumb luck.
I still recommend them - they are very quiet, do pretty well off road, and grip the ice well & will run as fast as you dare without any issues.
