I'm wanting to spend a weekend at Navajo Lake before summer is over. I'm not hugely fond of going into the park and staying in a campground. Ideally I'd like to find an isolated area outside of the park where I can drive up near the water and camp using my RTT.

Anyone ever done something like that at Navajo or the surrounding area? I'm pretty desperate to get a good swimming weekend in!

We have always camped at the state park and just driven down to the shore for day time fun. But I know that you can drive down to the lake side and camp as well. We see tent campers along the north shore and clearly they have driven down to the shore - so it is doable. You may want to try google earth or call the ranger station. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys! Sounds like we'll probably look for access outside of the park then go to the park and try to beach it if possible.

If you come in on the Sims Mesa side there is camping before you get to the campground. There are also several places north of Sims Mesa that you can get to the water from, especially in a 4x4 without a trailer. Don't settle for camping in the electric areas, there is so much more to be seen off the grid!!!

Awesome info! That is definitely plan-A.

Yes, I'd avoid the electric sites cause people like Larry @LBBLC100 camps there. :flipoff2:

I know that @mbarela goes fishing there quite a bit so he'll have ideas.
