Anybody use a Fumoto Oil Drain on FJ/FZJ80's?

I have these on our other vehicles and think they're great for making a dirty job a little easier and faster. I found the correct model (F-103) for Toyota Land Cruisers and plan to buy one. Before doing so, thought I'd check here and see if anyone's every had any issues on the trail or otherwise with these drains.

Looks like there's plenty of clearance under the pan to ensure that it doesn't get knocked off by debris/rocks, or have any issues with drainage. I'm planning to get the version without the tubing attachment, just to keep it a little more low-profile under there, though I can see the utility in having the tubing in place to reduce wind and splashing while it's draining - which is going to take awhile out of that little drain port for so many quarts.

Looks like this;

Anyway, any thoughts appreciated, and thanks.

I have one on my Fj Cruiser
I like it. makes oil changes a breeze. No messy hands when you drop the bolt. positive lock . I put it in about a year ago and will have to get one for my other cruiser ,

Why mess with a TEQ part that has proven itself all over the world? Best to not have anything that sticks out at all IMHO.

Looks like i good product, but if that gets knocked off on a trail that could be real bad :bang:... not sure if i personally would risk it.

I have one on my truck. granted, im not an FJ80, and have a skid plate guarding the oil pan area. its a wonderful product. makes oil changes a breeze.

No personal experience If locks closed real good, should be OK as it is pretty far away from brush and branches, but I would be hesitant due to vandals, just sayin. Too easy, too fast for someone to open it. Just my thought. John

Agree and don't see adding another possible leak point. On some vehicles the plug isn't very accessible, so would have benefit, on the Cruiser it is stupid simple. Getting oil on your hands is part of working on the rig, if it bothers you wear gloves!:princess::hillbilly:

My oil pan is well protected . My skids keep that area safe. The valve sits way up above it. Fumoto Valves have been used for years, in all kinds of industry, included wheeling. The idea of it being knocked off is slim to none. It that happened, I probably would have bigger problems . I consider this a very low risk mod, that won't give me any trouble. The oil drains nicely, from the small nipple an
doesn't soak the inside of my skid, from the initial splash. I don't consider this a "doodad" mod. It is practical and dependable .

Agree, have seen, used them on lots of vehicles, for a longtime, nothing new. Have also replaced them due to leakage and/or damage. Well, "replaced" is likely not the correct word, IIRC everyone of them went back to a standard drain plug. The standard drain plug has also been used for a while, simple, well proven, about as reliable as possible.:hillbilly:

If you wheel, strange things or just about anything can happen. I recently stuck a stick through the body (rear fender well)!:eek: No big deal, remove it, add some seam sealer, good to go. I look at mods from a "what would the consequences of failure be vs the benefit" viewpoint. On the '80 the drain plug is easy to get to, doesn't splatter on anything, so little/no benefit, the consequences of failure could be a bad day, so in this case, would call it a "doodad". In the case where the plug is obstructed, may be the best option?

I recently stuck a stick through the body

my buddy following right behind me through a creek crossing got a big branch stuck up between the body and tcase, shifting it into neutral and stuck him in the middle of the creek, i didnt see it when i drove through, weird stuff happens out there.
