So, I see these stories about sharpening files with acid. Not tried that myself but am intrigued. Anybody actually had that work for them? Or not? Did it make a significant difference? What acid did you use?

I did it with a bunch of files a few years ago. Vinegar in a tall glass cylinder, left them soak over night. Actually worked better than I expected, it salvaged a few flat bastard files that I was expecting to have to throw away, yet I am still using them.

ah, nice. I may give it a try, not much to lose if the file is almost done. I think I'll try it with only half of it submerged to see the difference better. I am tempted to use something a bit stronger than vinegar, though.
