well i would say that it is NOT a dedicated mud tire, leans to the whole trail thing. i guess i just like the overall look, the response that the jeep guys gave and oh yeah, they are AVAILABE and affordable! i had the bfg a/t's on my last truck and am looking for a change.

I have no experience with the Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX Tire but from the way they advertise it, it looks like a "freeway" tire.

"ALL SEASON HIGHWAY & OFF-ROAD DRIVING
ALL NEW TREAD DESIGN
SOFT, QUIET RIDE
PRECISE HANDLING
LONG WEARING
SIDEBITERS® FOR EXTRA TRACTION & PROTECTION"

They make a Baja Radial ATZ and an MTZ which are more agressive but not in any size you could use.

If anyone is interested in getting that at cost let me know. It is not quite as simple as that, but you may like the deal.

well i have to admit they look all highway in the pic., maybe i was looking at an older version! i swear though in the 33" version the tread looked a heck of a lot "meatier".

"If anyone is interested in getting that at cost let me know. It is not quite as simple as that, but you may like the deal." does that start with "pssssst! hey buddy!" :D

wb1948- am i wrong or do they look better in person? i would assume you work somewhere that sells tires? well this started out as a toyo thread and i have turned it into a whole different monster, Bad azz Cruiser i owe you an apology!

Well, even though the topic drifted..at least you are talking about tires that are ACTUALLY FRIGGIN AVAILABLE !!...Lol..

Ok quick question...If you right now had to go get a set of 33`s in an M/T tread, and cost wasn`t an issue...what tire would you buy ?? !!

I REALLY need, right now, a set of M/T s and I found a sert of Goodyear MT/R s (285/75/16) with road hazard and free everything (flat repair, rotation, balance..) for the life of the tire for $194.37 plus tax each..Do ya think this is a deal, well and tire that will treat me right?

AT THIS POINT..ANY OPINIONS ABOUT ANY GOOD TIRES ARE WELCOME !!

That sounds like a great deal particulary with the road hazard warranty!!! Here's my experiences with my 285R75/16 GY MT/R tires. If you are in Las Vegas you already know the terrain...lots of rock, dg (decomposed granite for you east coasters), more rock...did I mention we have lots of rock here?

The tires, since I have had them now several months, are incredible in our terrain. They, in my opinion considering they are full blown off-road type tread, are relatively quiet (key word: "relatively"). Yesterday I wheeled them with 35psi since I don't have a PowerTank (yet)...and they couldn't have been better. I like the 3-thick ply sidewalls...I think others on this board have attested to the MT/R's strong sidewalls.

OK...the down side: I will need to get them "force balanced"...the dealer I bought them from just can't seem to get them balanced so that they are vibration free at all speeds (they are not all that bad but I think they could be smoother). I also heard the production consistency/quality control is not all that great...if your dealer is a good friend maybe they would go through 8-10 tires to get you the best ones?

How long will they last? I will let you know in a year or so...too early to tell. My buddy who has run Swampers says the MT/R are much quieter and significantly longer lasting on the pavement...

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input guys !!

I am leaning towards the Goodyears...mainly because I have heard (and read) about the MT/R`s and they seem to have an excellent track record. I will be straight out ABUSING the tires I choose, so I am really weighing what I am hearing about all the different brands..And, although noise and balancing issues are not a really big deal to me... TREADWEAR and TREAD/SIDEWALL strength are very important to me, because I dont want to buy a set of Nasty ol M/Ts every year (and I want the spare to rot away under my truck BEFORE its ever used) ..lol...

Consider the Firestone Destination M/T. I've heard very good things about them.

They are great for the first 10,000 mi. then they suck real bad. My friend is running 33's on his Tacoma and they are badly worn and very noisy now at 10,000 mi.?

MTR's are great for the rocks.

These are the same reasons I chose the MT/R. And knowing what I know right now about them and how I use them I would make the same decision again. However having said that I think...maybe Shotts can chime in here...if you are going to primarily be running on slick-rock type terrain (Arizona?) maybe a more "closed" tread pattern would give you better wear. Again...I don't know what the life expectancy of my MT/Rs are right now...but heavy hard off-road use is going to wear any tire faster than all the smooth concrete and asphalt in the world...

I had a set of Bridgestone Dueller MT's that lasted about 20k miles. They wore fast and left a lot of rubber on the rocks while offroading. Then I went back to BFG MT's and got about twice that out of them. My last set of MT's were a set of GY MT/R's and I thought they were decent overall. The only thing I didn't like about them was I couldn't get them balanced, EVER. Also, they were marginal at best in mud.
