AC compressor started shutting off intermittently. Brought to dealer, filled with uv dye refrigerant, leak detected in evaporator. Entire dash to be torn out to fix. Gonna do o rings, evaporator, cooler, and expansion valve. They want 3500. Any advice from the hive mind? Thanks y’all!

Yes on my 2018 LC not LX. No idea if the evap assy (87050-60A80 on LC) is the same part and I realize the dashes are different between them though. Dealer did it under extended warranty in an attempt to get rid of the persistent AC servo damper problem. I was weary about them ripping entire dash apart but they mostly managed to get it back together the first shot. Drivers side lower dash panel came back not able to clip in so I took it back and they ordered a new panel and it's all good after that.

Sounds like at $3500 yours is a bargain though as my job was $7100. But it was charged to the warranty company so I assume the dealer will try to get whatever they can from them.

Had this done to my 100 series. Saved quite a bit of coin by cutting through a plastic cross member instead of removing the whole dash. Here’s a thread:

I have no idea if this is an option on the 200, though

I’m pretty rusty on this as I haven’t looked at it in a number of years but I believe in our case the evap core is in the center of the dash not off to the passenger side, meaning what they did on your 100 isn’t an option here.
