I have the opportunity to get the tank for free, but they want to keep the motor and compressor parts.

i got a giant air tank in the same way. the one i got was left out in the rain for awhile and had some rust inside. I would make sure that the tank is not rotted out from not being properly drained while in use. if its sound you can buy a replacement compressor pump and motor to feed the tank from various sources. harbor freight is one, though questionable quality is a concern. I scored a big rig air brake compressor that is pretty heavy duty and a 5hp motor from a cement mixer to feed my tank. not sure if this helps you at all.

Even with cheapo stuff you're in the $400 range for both, plus you need a pulley and belt of course.
