Not sure about that, but I agree - seems to be a pretty solid engine with a few tweaks and gauges.

The thing to keep in mind with the 1HZ 'invincible' engine, is that most people find them under powered at one point or another. So they add a turbo. At that point the reliability is lost. It be comes like all the other indirect injection turbo diesel engines. They're all prone to over heating and cylinder head problems once turboed. Its a function of having a pre-combustion chamber in the cylinder head. This results in huge loss of heat to coolant, and a weaker cylinder head structure. Want a turbo diesel? Buy a direct injection one: 13BT, 12HT, 1HDT, 1HDFT, 1HDFTE. Or swap one in.

I actually would prefer the 1KZTE over a turbo charged 1HZ. Saves the effort and money of purchasing and installing a turbo on the 1HZ. And the reliability is about on par once turboed....the 1KZTE actually tougher IMHO.
