As some of you may know I recently sank my '00 in a river a couple weeks ago:( and the dealership has finally gotten back to be on damage repairs (which are listed below along with costs). The only items that I opted out of them repairing are the stereo amplifier under the passenger seat (it was completely submerged up over the gear shifter) and the antenna motor as it also fried and the antenna is now stuck in the up position. The dealership was going to charge me out the a$$ for OEM replacements but I've been planning on redoing my sound system for a while now and I finally got the chance to.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a new aftermarket amp that they're satisfied with? I also plan on replacing the 4 4" subwoofers in the rear with one 8". Any recommendations on the sub too?

Thanks in advance!

Damage Details and Cost:

* $1081.00 - 5 oil changes; 2 power steering fluid changes; 2 transmission
fluid changes; 2 differential case fluid changes; labor for engine
disassembly/reassembly
* $ 782.00 - Airbag control computer (existing computer is under the console
and got flooded)
* $ 347.00 - Engine belt idler assemblies - 2 locations (they were trashed
by water & sediment)
* $ 99.99 - Wheel alignment
* $ 35.00 - Air filter

TOTAL = $2344.95

I did some research recently on what would be easiest to fit in a 2000 year 100 series and with my preferences in mind came up with the following:
Amp: Alpine MRX-V70
Sub: JL Audio 6W3v3-4(x2)

Not a bad set for replacement.

Most of the digital Alpines will fit cleanly under the PS seat.

The 2x4 OEM sub is weak (as are most aftermarket replacements at that size), but to put something functional in that space requires a larger enclosure.

You might also consider a sub box behind the middle seat, or a flat subwoofer.

I'm confident that replacing the OEM sub's and going with those JL's as the least invasive I can go.

There is no getting around the need to replace/cut/redesign that enclosure. If I can get the factory subs out cleanly, I'm confident I can build an enclosure that will fit those two JL's. Key thing is gonna be depth... I'm betting it will protrude outward(which is fine) rather than necessitate the need for an external box...

Because of the drawers I can't have a protruding box. Ayone been able to put subs in the factory location?

I have a single 8" Boston Acoustics sub in a custom enclosure in place of the stock sub box. Looks 95% factory and takes no extra space. My amps are installed in the long, skinny storage compartment on the right side of the cargo area. Again, everything looks stock and completely hidden. The amps are ARC Audio units.

There is enough room in the inner fender well for a bigger custom enclosure in place of the stock one, but I would think it would have to be something fiberglassed in place to make use of the available space... Those that have actually done it can correct me on that if I've made too much of an assumption...

As for reusing the stock box with something else, there are also some options there, if you have the stock 6" sub a 6" Kicker CVX will fix with only a small spacer. I'm sure the dual 4" box can also be altered with a little cut and paste work. There is not alot of depth(3-3.5") and not alot of airspace(maybe .2 cubic ft) so options are pretty limited.

@mtnracer what did the custom box cost you?

I have my fuse box for all my electrical on the passenger side, so i think im stuck mounting an amp under the seat in the factory location.

@mtnracer I think I've seen the custom job on your rig. IIRC it looks very clean and near OEM.

@mtnracer could I see a photo of what yours looks like? If it's as nice as everyone says and near OEM I might be interested in duplicating it if possible.

All in, including the amps, digital controller, speakers, sub, custom box and labor I paid about $1900. Here is a pic of the 8" sub in the custom enclosure.

Is your aftermarket amp in the OEM amp location under the passenger seat, or in the rear with the sub?
