Thanks for your response and I appreciate putting your self at risk of sleeping on the couch. I'm not sure what I want to do next. Seller told me one previous owner and no accident history. Carfax revealed 6 previous owners, including some dealerships, and an accident in 2003. He brought his price down to $5,000 and claimed he had paid $8,000 and did not know about the accident. I'm a bit skeptical of the vehicle considering the situation.

Any experience with Rio Rancho Imports? They said they'd do a pre-purchase inspection for $45.

if I recall, RR Imports has worked on club memebrs cruisers before and should know cruisers(at least the older ones) fairly well. did you get any accident info? like where it was damaged?

those are some red flags. who knows how much this owner was lied to and what he now knows that he's not being honest about.

Yeah according to the carfax it says it was damaged in the rear. That's all that it mentioned. It did mention that the air bags did not deployed nor was there structural damage.

I completely agree. The owner did say that he took it to RRI for a mechanical evaluation about a year or so ago. So I confirmed by calling them. With the sellers permission they disclosed that in fact there was nothing wrong with it mechanically. They said it was not a pre-purchase inspection just a once over. RRI stated they would do a pre-purchase inspection for $45 which checks out the frame, body, and mechanical.

He said that he was willing to take $5,000. Do you think it's a fair price if everything checks out well with RRI?

with lockers, probably. I'm not as good with 80 series as some of the guys here. maybe they can chime in for that.

Wow, price drop to $5k so quickly? That does give me pause but the price is pretty good for a locked 80 with lift and bumper.

The carfax crash is only an issue depending on your use of it. If the ride is in good shape, mechanically sound and you plan to wheel it then it proabably doesn't matter if it was hit. If it is gonna be a daily driver or family car then it might matter.

Yeah I agree. He sent me some more pictures and it does look really clean and the color is a plus. I might have to have RR Imports check it out.

I don't really plan to use it at a daily but would like it to be dependable enough to be used as one if I ever decide to. I plan on using it as a expedition type vehicle and would like to keep the family safe.

for me, rear damage is less of a concern than front. you could fight alignment and bearing issues forever with a front end hit.

that truck is on our for sale thread from Jan 16th, so he's been trying to sell it for at least a little bit. there's a chance he's had no takers or callers and was willing to drop the price because of that.
if you are mechanical and can work on it, I bet it can be pretty reliable. have it checked for major stuff and get it. let me know if you need anything from me. I live in RR and am out of the dog house.

Yeah I think I'm gonna have RR Imports give it a thorough check before I jump on a plane. It sounds like a good deal to me. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I think RRI is a reputable place.
