Any one freshen up their plastic by painting them?

I am in the process there are tons of deep gouges in the rear cargo area plastics but they all looked terrible. I took everything off and used SEM interior paint for plastic and it is unbelievable how they look. If you have the Brown interior the Monterey is an exact match. looks amazing i will post some pics in a bit.

All of those scratches and gouges can be taken care of before painting. For the gouges just take a razor, carefully, and remove the excess that is above the plastic level. Then use the torch, carefully, to get the plastic to "flow"

ok so for the heat do you apply it to the front or hit it from the back. :censor:

I've done the heat gun to 'melt' the plastic trick for some interior trim with mixed results. It works good for limited fixes and if you're very, very careful. Overall, if I had an entire console that I needed to fix up, I'd choose the paint option 9 times out of 10 as it's just too easy to get botched results with heat on such a big area and with generally thin plastic.

I bought a can of the SEM Monterey and agree that it's a fantastic color match...moreso than the Rustoleum 'Textured Bronze'. And unlike the Rustoleum option, it doesn't impart any additional/different texture.

I think the pieces you've done so far look great. I'd look into trying the super glue + baking powder trick for filling in any deeper gouges before painting.

Those panels look great. Really good job.

But just for anybody looking to do touch up work instead of whole panel repaint, the paint isn't an exact match. I have both the SEM Monterey and Rustoleum textured antique bronze, and the bronze is the closer match, and even it is fairly obvious when sitting side by side to the original brown interior.

J, I am going to disagree I only painted a portion of one of my plastic's taped it up and I cannot tell the difference. but I did not just paint a spot so you may be right but even right next to each other no one would know but me.

I'd tend to disagree too. I've used both and I'd give a slight edge to the Monterey. That said, I'm sure there are slight variations from batch to batch. What I do like about the SEM product is that there is no extra texture.

Does either account for UV fade? Reason I ask is I actually have no UV fade since my truck is always parked either in a garage or underground at work.

Good point. Although my interior seems to be in great shape, I haven't owned the truck its whole life as you have so I can't say for certain. Now we need you to buy both products and settle the debate! ;)

or underground at work.

Liar...you just overheat engines. You don't work! :flipoff2:
