Here, and that is awesome...... Well done. Prolly good to keep the kids interest high if you can mix in some stuff they may relate too?

Can I request "Call of Ktulu"next? :D

cool song.

Transfers very well to orchestra!

Sweet! Just finished the year and I have a few more videos that I can finally get around to publishing: Something by the Beatles (this was a special arrangement I had my best man write for my wedding), Viva La Vida by Coldplay, Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas. I'll post 'em up when they're online.

Can't wait. How about Comfortably Numb for next year?

Our first concert is next week, we're doing a world premiere of a piece by a modern composer, Aaron Paul Low, who just happens to be my best friend. Also an Arizona premiere of a suite of Hungarian folk tunes that is pretty riotous. October 7th @ 7pm. A lot of other stuff on that program, too.

Next concert (12/16) will have some more music from the popular genre - an arrangement of music from 80's/90's video games, including Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Zelda, and Metroid. Naturally, that's paired up with a Mozart violin concerto - solo part will be played by one of our students who made the National High School Honor Orchestra, putting her in the top 40 high school violinists in the country. I haven't fully programmed that concert yet, so there may be another gem in there. I'll let you all know.

I finally got some of last year's stuff put together for youtube (something, by the beatles; viva la vida, coldplay; carry on wayward son, kansas) but i couldn't get the vids to upload to youtube. I've got them in another format now, maybe I'll give it a shot again. Sure thing though, I'll taping them and try to get more up.

Here's a couple of them: Something by the Beatles, and Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Still have to pull the others from my camera.

Isn't that Viva la Vida song the one they ripped off from Joe Satriani? Like a BLATANT copy of the Satriani song with no credit or royalties given to him? I'm at work and can't play the vids right now (filters) but I'm pretty sure that's the song that they just straight up stole the music on.

EDIT*** just checked it out and yep that's the song. Apparently they settled out of court the day after Kanye West made his last big blunder and the news stayed off the radar. Lucky for them I guess. Looks like Cat Stevens will be going after them next.

Huh. I had no idea. That's what I get for not actually listening to much pop - too much of my life spent in the practice room with Mozart and Beethoven. Never thought much of the song myself, anyway, but if it gets the students excited then it works for my needs.

Here's the vids from our concert last week. This stuff isn't as mainstream as the metallica/beatles/kansas stuff we've done, but my kids did a damn good job and I'm proud of 'em. Let me know what you think.

World premiere of a piece written by my best friend:

Fast paced arrangement of some Hungarian folk tunes:

Awesome! keep it up!

I tell ya, everytime I hear Comforatbly Numb I'm picturing your orchestra with an electric violin and sax solo section... it would rock...

:) Cayce, :clap::clap::cheers:

Hey if you ever get to the point where your willing to take on some requests from us mud folks, there is an endless supply of members who have great taste in music also..

For example; Satriani was mentioned, one of my favorites...:meh:

Thanks for the compliments, fellas. I'm always game for requests - filling them is the hard part :). It takes me a good amount of time to write each one, as I'm not too good at it yet. I've started thinking about ways to get a set of electric instruments for my school, but it's a tough time to go buying expensive things. Must get more students to get more money, maybe if I get enough they'll get me an assistant...:hhmm:
