Guys,

Looking to take a drive in the woods. Was wondering if there are any decent logging roads or seasonal highways near the city. I know I'd probably have to travel a bit north or west, but I was hoping that someone might have some thoughts. Don't need any crazy wheeling roads, just a drive in the woods would be great.

Thanks.

The authorities tend to frown upon driving in Central Park, but there are fun rocks to climb. Nothing close to the city that I know of. There are the occasional power line "trails" in the burbs, but it's easy to get nabbed by local cops and is very illegal. Unfortunately we live in a pretty densly populated area, so you'll have to drive at least 2 hours N, S, or west.

Yeah, i guess the "In" part of the "in or around" was kind of dumb. I was driving up by bear mountain, in harriman state park - looked like there might have been a couple of promising leads, but I didn't have time to investigate.

No one has any thoughts on where to find some dirt? I need a fix, and I'm willing to drive a bit for it.

Shoulda come to Fall Gathering or at least Fall Crawl at Rausch Creek next weekend ya poser! :flipoff2:

I'm doing stockers for sure. Can't blow any more drivetrains up.

Front diff and t-case. I pulled them both apart today. Nothing "visually" wrong with the t-case, but the diff is toast. Will post some pix as soon as I get them from my friend's camera. Did the disassembly at his place since I ain't got no garage, yard or driveway...

The killer is that the rear diff is now making noise.

Toyota claims the front went and then the t-case was still trying to grind it up and ruined itself. Somehow that lead to the rear being damaged.

WTF. This sucks.

I'm not going to make Fall Crawl unless I can get the rear done. They strongly recommended I not wheel the thing. And I really can't afford to replace my entire drivetrain again.

It's fine under load, but on coast it's making noise.

Hey I resent that! Just because I'm building this cool rig but haven't done more than some power line trails with it...oh...ok nevermind...

Two things holding me up:

1 - I work 6-7 days a week.
2 - I'm getting my rear bumper in any day now and will mount that and the front. Then I'll have something to help you guys pull my newb ass out of the trouble I'm going to find.

Cool. That way you don't bust front and rear diffs like I did at Fall Gathering...
