Any interest in a wagon run on the Dusy Ershim trail?

So with all the west coast wagons getting ToyBoxes I was wondering if there was any interest in a run over the Dusy.

How does September 25-28 sound?

Hit the trail early in the 25th and make it to Thompson Lake
Hit Ershim Lake for the 26th and 27th (worth staying 2 nights)
Head out on the 28th
Or
Do the same thing October 2-5

I would like to limit this rum to about 10 rigs

33" tires and at least 1 locker or 2 (un)limited slips.

Keep in mind this is 33 miles of trail and the nearest Napa, if they have the parts it will take you a days drive there and back. If not, Marlin might have them but he's in Fresno 4 hrs round back to Shaver Lake.

Body damage is likely. There is a tree that has taken out more than one 4runner side window and I assume it will take out a rain gutter or two.

This is strickly a friendly gathering, bring your own grub, libations and spare parts. No profit will be had from this gathering of Cruiser Heads.

do you have a locker and at least 33's? If not then your gonna beat the living hell out of your cruiser. A retarded friend of mine took his 40, open on 32"s down dusy(north to south, easy way) and came home with a frame thats bent in about 6 spots.

Any chance of a week or 2 prior? I know Marlin's run is somewhere there abouts but my anniversary is the 28th and I don't think the wifey would bee too good with me being off wheeling for it.

I rode that trail on a motorcycle back in the mid-80's. It was so beautiful there and the fishing was decent too! Wish I could go, but my rig ain't even streetable right now, much less trail-worthy. Y'all will have a great time I'm sure!

Ooh. The weekend after Labor Day hurts. I'm planning to go on a trip to Rubicon over the holiday.

I'd consider that. It's a great trail, but demanding and difficult. It's close to Rubicon in intensity, but much longer and much more remote. Our spare steering box last year had to come from Sacramento--5 hours away.

Late September is a decent time-no bugs, still kind of warm, cold at night. It could get some bad weather at those altitudes. I'm going to run it in August, so I'll let you know the conditions. It was difficult last year. Over the years, here some problems we've had on that trail:

Engine fire
Broken axle
Twisted drivshaft x several
Blown power steering
Broken sector shaft
Broken pan hard rod
Frame crack
Severely bent tie rod-rig not drivable on the road

Dave-T has a pretty nice 60 and I was trying to keep him from thrashing it. It might make it but it wouldn't be pretty. The problem comes when you can't make it and it's a 2 day walk out!

A double locked SOA 60 can do great on that trail. A SUA rear only locked 60 is asking for problems. Law gears are very desirable as well.

IMHO the trail is best done over 4 days, with the last driving day kept short.

Keep this updated, I'll try to work the schedule and go.
