I haven't seen any HAMOM requests in the coming months so I thought I might offer a request for some help in the coming months.
I'm trying to finalize getting my daughter's FJ-40 fully up to speed for her to use daily. We have got it road worthy but need to do a couple more things before I'll feel comfortable with her using it as "reliable" transportation.
- front disc conversion, I'm getting all the necessary parts from R.K. this weekend to swap out the existing drums for discs. He told me he has everything, all I have to get is a "knuckle rebuild" kit to complete the project. Also have new tie rod ends to go on with this upgrade.
- rebuild/replace brake master/slave, its leaking at a pretty high rate and needs replacement/rebuild. I'm presently looking at my options to do this (advise accepted)
- wiring harness replacement, I purchased the "painless" kit and want to replace the existing harness. It appears to have a number of patches and I would prefer to just start fresh
- turn signal lever/mechanism replacement, I purchased a new unit for replacement, part of above to make sure all is good
- move transfer case shift to floor, R.K. already replaced the tunnel so all I have to do is put the linkage/lever from the case through the existing hole. I'm picking the parts up from him with the disc brake conversion parts also.
That's it for now. Once this list is complete, we will start doing cosmetic prep for paint this winter, whenever we can find the time/place to get it painted. But, for now, I just want it mechanically sound so she can drive it to and from school and after school activities.
Of course, fine food, beverages and a warm place to hang out will be provided for any who would like to assist. I've got a decent tool box, compressor with some air tools but nothing "heavy duty". We found the factory manuals but other than the instructions within them and the Ih8mud resources, it will be a learning session for me and my daughters. Being that, first priority would be the disc conversion, the other items I believe I can handle w/o too much trouble, I hope.
We are located in Cary with a double car garage to use for a work space to stay out of the weather if necessary. I will be as flexible as possible to foster as much help as I can muster.
Thanks for considering this as a HAMOM, I'm thinking most any weekend in Nov, but leaning toward the 15/16th if that works for people, being it the 3rd Sunday as a "regular" meeting date. But, I would be up for Nov 8th, or 22nd since I'll have to work the mornings of the 9th and 23rd...
