I haven't seen any HAMOM requests in the coming months so I thought I might offer a request for some help in the coming months.

I'm trying to finalize getting my daughter's FJ-40 fully up to speed for her to use daily. We have got it road worthy but need to do a couple more things before I'll feel comfortable with her using it as "reliable" transportation.

- front disc conversion, I'm getting all the necessary parts from R.K. this weekend to swap out the existing drums for discs. He told me he has everything, all I have to get is a "knuckle rebuild" kit to complete the project. Also have new tie rod ends to go on with this upgrade.

- rebuild/replace brake master/slave, its leaking at a pretty high rate and needs replacement/rebuild. I'm presently looking at my options to do this (advise accepted)

- wiring harness replacement, I purchased the "painless" kit and want to replace the existing harness. It appears to have a number of patches and I would prefer to just start fresh

- turn signal lever/mechanism replacement, I purchased a new unit for replacement, part of above to make sure all is good

- move transfer case shift to floor, R.K. already replaced the tunnel so all I have to do is put the linkage/lever from the case through the existing hole. I'm picking the parts up from him with the disc brake conversion parts also.

That's it for now. Once this list is complete, we will start doing cosmetic prep for paint this winter, whenever we can find the time/place to get it painted. But, for now, I just want it mechanically sound so she can drive it to and from school and after school activities.

Of course, fine food, beverages and a warm place to hang out will be provided for any who would like to assist. I've got a decent tool box, compressor with some air tools but nothing "heavy duty". We found the factory manuals but other than the instructions within them and the Ih8mud resources, it will be a learning session for me and my daughters. Being that, first priority would be the disc conversion, the other items I believe I can handle w/o too much trouble, I hope.

We are located in Cary with a double car garage to use for a work space to stay out of the weather if necessary. I will be as flexible as possible to foster as much help as I can muster.

Thanks for considering this as a HAMOM, I'm thinking most any weekend in Nov, but leaning toward the 15/16th if that works for people, being it the 3rd Sunday as a "regular" meeting date. But, I would be up for Nov 8th, or 22nd since I'll have to work the mornings of the 9th and 23rd...

Jerry, just set a date and people will come! I was overwhelmed with response just to my request for help, and I never even declared HAMOM. I know if I'm available, I'll come help - but it's a tough time of the year and only getting toughter.

Good call, I guess ambiguity will never help in such things. I guess I was trying to keep things open in case Greg had ideas for the next meeting and I didn't want to impose my wishes on his plans.

So, I will make a call for help on Sat Nov 15th. At the very least, I would like help with the knuckle rebuild/disc brake conversion/tie rod end replacement.

Thanks for the suggestion...

Dangit, Jerry that was going to be the annual meeting date.....

Only kidding, I do want to set a date for the November meeting, going to make this the annual one and make sure it is the best date for the majority of the club.

I'm in for a HAMOM, especially to watch/help the front disc brake conversion. That's something on my list to do on Cruiser#2.

Greg, have you looked at doing the annual meeting say in Asheboro since it's somewhat central to Charlotte, Raleigh, Fayetteville? Triad folks are a little closer, but it gives us a better chance at getting everyone once a year.....

Thanks, it should be a good opportunity for those of us who have never done this to learn from anyone who has.

I think that is a good idea about meeting in Asheboro, it is about as central as anywhere...

Just picked up the parts from R.K. and I'll be ordering the rebuild kit and master brake cylinder today. Assuming all goes well with the parts delivery, should be good to go for the disc conversion as planned. I already have the everything needed for the other part of the project.

Its funny seeing all the various parts to this project, should be fun getting "intimate" with some knuckles and birfs...

Not gonna say I'm a seasoned grease monkey, but I'm in. Let me know what dates and if I'm free I'll be there.

The plan is Sat Nov 15th. I've got to find a few tools and some bolts to have everything in hand but I've got the last parts on the way now. Need to find a decent sized brass/lead dead blow hammer as well as a piece of brass to bang on to help seat things...

Don't have any plans that weekend, so I can help. Can't do anything heavy due to health issues I'm getting over, but good for helping out anywhere I can. Don't have those tools you are looking for, if you need anything else let me know and I'll see if I got em. Have 3 6ton floor jacks if you need any of those and various tools....

No worries, any help will be appreciated. The job is basically a knuckle rebuild project, just replacing the knuckles from the '71 with knuckles from a '75 which use disc brakes instead of drums. From what I understand (having never done it before), its a very messy job, lots of grease, dirt, rust, etc. I'll also be replacing the brake master cylinder to one that doesn't leak and matches the '75 discs...

Jerry I will be there, Getting to the point these can be done blind-folded but it's an enjoyable task when complete, yes messy, but pretty simple.

Thanks Greg. Hopefully, I'll learn from your experience and you can show me all the "tricks" so I can save myself the pain of being a noob...

Good old Harbor Freight has a plastic coated dead blow hammer on sale. $10 or so? I was going to try and head up there this weekend for an extra set of jack stands, a BFH, and some other things. Let me know if you'd like me to pick one up (If no one else has one...)

Depending on your start time, I could come over for a while. Pack game is at 3:30, so we'll likely go out around 11:00 - early morning I could be there. I have Clint's hub socket right now (SST :) ) and I'm sure he wouldn't mind lending it. I also have Greg's seal driver set. Be sure and buy LOTS of brake cleaner and rags/paper towels, as well as latex gloves.

Anyone want to install rear springs and diff drop bracket on a 100? This maybe a HAMON for the future. This is my budget lift for Xmas.
