Mid August, I am scheduled to join some friends for some backpacking/hiking Mt. Shasta. Are there any cool off road trails close to the Mt. Campgrounds to explore? If yes, are they technical? Sliders, skid plates required?

I know a few good spots to get up in the hills outside of Yreka, but I dont' get down around the mountain much....
