...before semi-real winter starts.

So, :princess: and I are trying this... www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm/id/publications.Par.48895.File.dat/entiredoc.pdf ...the Owyhee Uplands Back Country Byway. We've seen a lot of the area north pg oy on horseback, trip should be interesting & take all day. 60 or so miles to the start, 104 for the trail itself, and another 70 home.

The Owyhee's are some of the wildest inaccessible pieces in the US short of Alaska. Should be fun.

Not tech, but looks like a fun trip.

Didn't know about an ancient Lake Idaho.

On our way to Sunriver this summer, we went through northeastern NV and southeastern OR - that was pretty remote.

The Owyhees is very similar terrrain.

We did the trip last Wednesday...

Had a great time. Some interesting oncoming traffic about 25 miles in from the start in Jordan Valley...Semi's pulling stock trailers (I'd never seen a stock trailer with a pup trailer attached) in sections where the road was maybe a lane and a half, but more than sufficient pullouts...

No traction issues as long as you remember pea gravel on the road is similar to ice in many ways;)

For the remainder of the trip, virtually zero traffic w/ exception of a couple of Owyhee county road graders.

If you're in SW Idaho it's an easy and very beautiful trip.
