Second time I’ve been burned. My own dumb fault this time I suppose.

My first order with him was fine. I bought the crummy 2F headers he sells. They showed up quick and without issue.

Second time I bought a fluid heat riser kit from him and it never showed up. I called him and he hung up on me saying my phone was muffled. It was the middle of the pandemic so I talked myself out of getting irate and chalked it up to a loss. It was too late to call my bank about it. Oh well.

Fast forward a few years and I decide to give him a chance again because he’s the only one listing valve seats for sale and in stock and I’m the kinda guy for bygones.

Ordered 12 of them. Got an email confirming payment. Next day I get an email saying order is complete and I receive a tracking number. UPS says they are awaiting the package for over a week.

I check the jtoutfitters website tracking system. Nothing I don’t already know. So I call Joe.

Joe answers. “Hello this is Joe”

“Hi Joe, I’m calling in regards to an order I placed last week.” As polite and clear as I can annunciate without shouting.

“Hello, dude what was that? I can’t hear a damn thing you’re saying?”

I repeat myself.

“Bud your cell phone ain’t workin”

Hangs up on me.

I call him back and he lets it go to voice mail. I call him back again and he’s blocked my number.

Throw this one on the heaping pile of JTOutfitters is sh!t stack. Stay away!!!

@cps432 I don’t usually stick my nose where it doesn’t belong, but I’ve been hearing this same thing since I started in the Land Cruiser world. I also find it a bit strange that the guy has like 5 other similar websites for different vehicles and business ventures. I respect the hustle, but it comes across a little weird for some reason that I can’t explain. Anyway, when I was starting to collect parts for my 2F rebuild he had some things I needed and couldn’t find anywhere else except JTO. I chose not to order from him and ended up scrounging the parts up elsewhere.

Geez, I hope my little side hustle doesn’t end up in this forum. If nothing else you can read through all the threads and see what NOT to do as a business owner. I strive to take those lessons into account and hope that the one time I’m human and make a mistake, somebody doesn’t end up in here railing against me. I guess that’s the flipside: business owners, especially small ones, are human. Not that that’s an excuse for bad behavior, but the internet has a hard time differentiating between a small mistake and intentional bad behavior. Your issue definitely sounds legitimate.

I understand that we all get things wrong sometimes. We all have bad days and weeks etc. and a small business can easily get behind. Hell, a major corporation can. I know personally.

But communication is key. If you tell people there is a long lead time because of high demand for excellence then people will tolerate the wait. But if you say something is there and in stock and it’s not and then you act aloof to your business it certainly sends a message.

When it happens multiple times to the same person it’s defiantly an issue. But when it happens to dozens of people over a dozen or more years and it’s always met with the same attitude it’s a problem.

I’m starting to wonder how legitimate his website is in the first place. He claims over 1 million satisfied customers with 55k products sold? And is still using his personal cell phone for a company phone? I’m assuming… because I didn’t speak to a customer service person. I spoke directly to Joe.
