that looks pretty good, but I see quite a lack of isolation from noise/ heat/ cold... I don't really see the point to having nice curtains and furniture and everything when you still feel like in a regular tent.

The slope of the roof on the folding sides wouldn't feel comfortable in the rain IMO.

Lots of people have them. People buy them because they are cheaper than the other ones, quick to set up etc. That said, of course there are some tradeoffs.

Me? I just fart, take off the undies and we have instant canapie for the whole camp site. :flipoff2:

A guy with a heep down the street from me has one of those. Seems pretty cool, however I haven't seen him take it out in over a year.

Pretty cool. I am glad to see a tent trailer with something other than the usual dinkly tires and whimp axles and hubs. Worth a closer look.

Checked them out at the local dealer a while back. Built pretty good, sits high and the canvas comes in 5 pieces. The track width is good with an 80. A little on the heavy side. The larger model waste a lot of space with a shower but if you have a large family the additional front rack can hold a lot. I look hard at the 10rt model but thought is was too pricey for my cheap ass. I would purchase a used one if the price were right.

How much was it, and do you have an idea of the weight ?

Just called our local dealer...

RT11 w/ AC, front rack, refrigerator (instead of ice box) and furnace was about $9000. He said the RT10 was only about $1000 - 1500 less.

Hell, I'm seriously thinking about one of those for them prices. Depends on what the wifey wants :) We've been talking about them for a while now. Used to have a real nice 18 ft. trailer with all the goodies. Too much work. Too heavy. Too bulky. Too much wind resistance. Sold it.

Jody.

I looked at something like this at a RV dealer in Denver. I can't remember the name of their "offroad" model but looks similar to the ones above. My wife and I looked closely at the construction of both models (off road and on road). To us they both appear to be constructed similarly with couple of exceptions: off road model was sprung over and with 15" size tires. It wouldn't take much to simply convert over to spring over I'd think. However, converting to a 15" wheel would be more difficult due to the wheel well size. One cool thing was the diamond plating on the front of the off road model!

Looked at the Jayco, owns Starcraft, and the dealer said that the starcraft was the test bed for the Jayco. The Jayco is huge and has all the stuff the Starcraft has but better. $6500 was the price I was quoted.

Pop-ups are all over the place around here. Some friends have owned them, but traded them in after a couple of years. Reasons: they tend to be pretty heavy for their size (you've already seen that), and they are a hassle to use--to pack them you have to open them up and close them, you do the same when you get to your site, and then when you come home, you go thru it all over again. If it rains, you have to leave them open to dry out before storing or the canvas will rot and/or mold. They also don't tow very well for some reason--never understood quite why.

The positive is that for their towing size, they offer more internal room once set up--that would be important if you're taking the family with you. Not sure the A/C would be very efficient but might still be necessary in a place like Tucson.

Starcraft uses 5 separate pieces of canvas (or whatever you call it) and Jayco uses a one-piece design. If you tear Jayco's you buy the whole thing. Starcraft can be purchase in sections. One good reason to purchase the Starcraft.
