In the blow picture (found on here, not my BJ73,) the leaf springs are kinda hanging down off of the connecting device (shackle?). As they just installed mine, it is more like the piece is straight out to the rear, rather than hanging down some. The leaf spring is the same length as the previous ones, and has more bow, so I assume it isn't that it is too long, but rather that they should have pushed that piece DOWN before putting the tire on?

I can take of how mine are now, if that helps... Probably will, just cuz... but meanwhile, do the rest of yours look like this?

As always, thanks for the help!

Do you mean one leaf is flat and only connected at the front shackle and at the axle.
If so it is a heavy load carrying leaf that only works when the others are fully compressed.
To have it connected without a load would make the ride in the rear too harsh.
Its a kind of 2 stage suspension.
Here is mine

Hi All:

Yes, on the vehicle pictured the rear shackles look fine. Please post a photo of the rear shackles on your Land Cruiser so we can evaluated the situation.

Drama

I took it back to the mechanic this morning. He agreed that the shackles should have been down instead of up, and that they should not have WELDED the first couple plates together.

I think the leafsprings have an OEM number on them of 48110-60250 ... a search yielded a chinese company that makes them:
LEAF SPRING Manufacturer exporting direct from China

I hope to hell that will fit front or rears... or I see myself having just bought about 400 bucks worth of useless steel.

The guy said to check back at 2 pm. I tried phoning til 4 pm, then tried his son's number (the one who screwed up inthe first place) but he said they were working on it still and to come at 6 pm. I don't have much confidence at this point... but the ones that were on it measured about 120 cm, and the ones on it now are only 3-5 cm short of that, so I think they SHOULD work right, if they were installed right... Will keep y'all posted.

Success at last

Finally got a break with the Landcruiser leafsprings! The wrong part was exchanged and replaced by the mechanic (the father, this time,) and the Landcruiser now behaves like a proper 4x4 vehicle, instead of a bouncing can that sends ya through the roof of the car each time ya drive near a pebble. :) They even had it washed when I got there! It's amazing what happens when ya bring along someone who knows your priest!

I will be taking it back for other little stuff to be tended to over the next couple days, and then it is bush-worthy again. I'll hold off on the front leaf springs and shocks til I make CERTAIN I can get exactly the right part this time.

Thanks for the input, you guys!
