Is it a must to drill holes and attach the snorkel to the a pillar on a cruiser when installing the snorkel or could you just install the snorkel by just drilling holes and mounting it in the fender ( is that enough support ). Is it nessesary? Don't really want to drill holes in my a pillar, as a fender is replacable, not the pillar.

anybody out there skip this step, while installing there snorkel?

Relax, you can always weld a patch in the pillar. You want the snorkel, so just go for it. If you really want to skip the drilling of the A pillar, I would try to find another way to support the top of the snorkel, because at speed it may try to peel off.

It seems like I read a few years ago(back in my 4Runner days) that someone put one on and didn't drill the pillar and the snorkle blew outward on the interstate and bent the fender.

Maybe you could shorten the snorkel to just above the fender.

You could maintain the original height but use guy wires of braided copper and rubber or wood bushings to provide the stiffening.

Would super glue be too outre ?

That's a shortcut I wouldn't risk. First off, the upper section would surely vibrate against the truck. Second, think about the things you come in contact with...or fools walking by in parking lots, that might pull on it. Nothing like coming out of a restaurant to find that some 15 year old with lots of anger and a Metallica CD collection decided to yank on it. The pillar holes could be filled, sanded and shot by a good body shop without much work. Besides, if you got the balls to drill that big hole, what's three more small ones? :D

and tell the guy with the red rig to use round drill bits next time...! :D

Do not omit the pillar attachment. It needs to be there.

the red rig belongs to pismo jim, sort of borrowed his pic from his installation page. :D

Good point, you know my dad is 35 year vet. body tech, he told me it was not a big deal at all, just thought that I can replace fender, but not pillar.

If it wasn't necessary then it wouldn't be there. :D

:D

What about that 3M double sticky tape stuff they use on emblems and body side cladding ? Run a strip up the entire pillar .. thats gotta be strong , or else cladding would be pulling off . Mind you the windage on cladding is far less ...
