I have a red 1982 FJ43 soft top coming for sale $39,900. Truck is in Colombia.

Delivery March 2015. I personally drove this one. Starts right up and shifts and drives nicely.

This is a late model dash 1982 FJ43 with 4 drums, 4 speed and power steering. No heat or AC.

This one has very nice paint and we do not plan to do any paint work (other than maybe fix a few dents or scratches).

Truck gets a overhaul including pulling and inspecting all the hubs. Brake overhaul. Tune up. fluid change. Same overhaul we do on our all trucks. This will be my 6th FJ43.

Truck gets NEW soft top (old one is Ok but windows have some scratches) and NEW high quality interior we are doing now.

Will get 5 new 7.50 x 16 tires. Either we keep these 15 inch splits or put 16 inch splits. If you want hubcap rims in the US with 31 inch tires we can do that.

I have other FJ43s coming in in green, yellow and white.

Has non OEM dash pads I think we remove those. I have grown to like the bare painted dash look.

Another thing these are all 4.10 gears and they like 55 mph to 60 mph max cruise so keep that in mind.

The FJ43s really RIDE nicer than the FJ40s. They are not that long though and easy to tool around and park easily.

Forgot. we can compression test too. This one has very good paint quality. Dash pads likely custom made not OEM. Top is high quality but has scratches on the vinyl windows so we will replace with new. There are varying quality of FJ43s on the ground in Colombia as many were used for commercial use. This is one of the good ones.

New interior we are doing. Photos from our other 1982 FJ43 with bucket seats. We will put the same quality interior on this one listed for sale here and keep the factory bench.

Unrelated post but some of you guys like the Nissan Patrols too. Here is our 68,000 mile 1977 Nissan Patrol we just completed and shipped. Truck is amazingly original. has original 1977 green canvas top. We made another tan new top for the client. We can do the traditional super light beige Toyota top for the listed for sale truck or a darker beige that you see here on this Nissan. The darker tan material we are using is very heavy duty with an extra black layer inside.

You see the Nissan in the shipping container. We source from the mountains of Colombia where the rust free trucks are. We then ship in insured containers to the coast.

Send me email I can shave some price off if we can keep the interior. it is really not that bad. I like to go through the mechanical because I have to drive them in Florida myself. Also the red one needs a new soft top as we don't want to be putting them on in the USA.

I am posting some others starting at $35900. I hope to be more efficient and do more volume and actually bring prices down not up. The Colombians are actually speculating on their Toyotas and generally the prices have gone up and quality down on the candidate trucks. However I have been there now 18 months doing this so I have better contacts.

1977 Patrol is sold to a collector for $33,000. rare truck in that is one owner and amazingly original. I am starting to offer "affordable patrols" at low $20,000. Keep the hard tops but still do the mechanical review.

Here is one that I like right now. Needs some touches but it is a straight rust free medium wheelbase 1977.
Looks good with 32 inch new tires on it. We can put a traditional white hard top on it. I dont like the black paint on the hood or the grill. we can change that. I am around $22000 on this one depending. Interior is new.

I really love the Patrols and hopefully by starting with a rust free truck that we check the mechanicals the buyer won't have to be hunting too many parts.

There are not many medium wheelbase Patrols in the US. maybe 5 or less.

This one has P series straight six which is smoother than the 2F. has 3 speed clunky trans. no power steering. has adapted brake booster.

This ugly/macho duckling is I believe actually a very good truck. My assistant went through it. Need to do a mechanical check on it. Great color.

The yellow FJ43 I posted will likely be ready before this red FJ43 listed for sale as it needs a new soft top and I quoted the price with the new interior we are doing as seen below.

We are nearly finished with our 79 FJ43 Olive so hopefully next week we start on the next wave of FJ43s including this red one. this one got the new interior we are doing.

Question: why do you say that this truck and your other post '79 are 4.10 gears? Did all of the '79-'84 trucks you're selling have the gears swapped out from 3.70 to 4.11? The VIN tags on your website for this truck and your other post '79 state KO52 = 3.70. So curious as to why you say they are all 4.10.

Every truck I have done so far is 4.10 gears even the later models. It is a Colombian spec due to the mountains. Same as why they have have the H41 not the H42 transmission. I have seen those references on the tags and I may be incorrect on this particular truck as it runs like racehorse. This truck was originally Rustic Green via the tag and repainted olive. It also has a Hilux 5 speed that was adapted before plus disc brakes. The client knows this and was OK with that. I am hoping to get it dialed in properly and really RUN it to see how it performs. When I bought it had bad brakes, clunky trans and a power steering adaptation we did not like so it was hard to run.

Anyhow in general 90% of Colombian spec trucks regardless of model year come with 4.10 gears, H41, no emissions and power drums all around.

3.70 gears are rare down there. Every truck I have brought to the US only goes 55 mph to 60 mph.

There MAY be a discrepancy on the data plate tags bec I think an earlier truck I imported said 3.70 gears like you posted so I am wondering if maybe it was a dealer installed option when new. In Colombia you almost never have a chance to run over 50 mph or so the 4.10 would be the way to go. I am going to check for another data plate.

This truck I really believe has 4.10 gears bec it cruises quietly at 55 mph and no more. I just had a guy test drive it who has 3.70 gears and he runs 60 to 65 mph. I have not driven a 3.70 geared truck so far. He said mine was definitely geared more heavily. I had read the conversation on what KO52 means a while ago and I am wondering if means the axle itself and not just the gears. Different countries had different specs.

I hope to drive the olive 5 speed and see if we can run it faster speeds (it has disc brakes too). In the end I think these are 60 mph more or less vehicles no matter what. I would like to know as I have the opportunity to buy some 5 speeds or install them. I am starting to think that leaving them as they are and just running 55 mph is fine for the kind of use it will see. I was worried about the drum brakes before but once we overhaul they are really fine.

Back to this red 82 FJ43 soft top that is for sale I believe the yellow FJ43 I posted will be finished before this one. This one is getting a new soft top and then I will decide if I do the new interior or not. The current interior is newish and pretty good. My body guy went over this truck and it is NOT original floors but clean. It has 2 small repairs in the front floor boards where they are texture painted. It is almost an identical twin to the red 1981 FJ43 on the beach that I posted which I sold early in 2014. The first step in picking these trucks is turning away the ones that do not make the cut. In general the FJ40s are higher quality than the FJ43s down there so you have to be pickier with the FJ43s.

VIN/data plates are only correct when nothing original to the vehicle has been removed and replaced--that includes the plate itself which must match the factory serial number stamped into the frame.

Differentials are removed frequently, often swapped front-to-back, geared up or geared down.
The only absolute way of knowing what's in there is to count the teeth on the gears to determine the ratio--on both the front and rear axles which need to match on a 4wd truck. Simply guessing can cause misrepresentation.

I'm not for sure however, I think non-USA 79-83/4 trucks got h41 transmission and 4.10 gearing. At least in South America and Australia. My old Australian and Panamanian 1981 HJ47's had the H41 and 4.10 gearing with power DRUM brakes.

Actually, ToyDiy, cites North American, Japan, Europe, and General Markets... E.g Colombia, Panama, Australia...
We all know that US and Canada trucks differ... 24 vs 12 volts. Gas vs gas or diesel. Later BJ42's even got H55 transmissions.

Yes, 4.11s would be typically installed for those markets. But, again, what originally came on that truck, and what is currently on that truck, may be two entirely different things, only verified by gear counting or rotating a wheel and driveshaft and counting turns.

This truck I really believe has 4.10 gears bec it cruises quietly at 55 mph and no more. I just had a guy test drive it who has 3.70 gears and he runs 60 to 65 mph. Weird, the Euro spec BJ43 I just sold cruised perfect at 65mph and was even able to go up to 75 mph with the 4.11 gears. The JDM BJ44 that I just picked up in northern Cali and drove home to Texas cruised well at 65 mph and got up to 75 mph when I got hungry or tired of driving.2000 miles roadtrip in 3 days with a 4 speed and 4.11 gear diesel so if the Colombian specs don't cruise at 65 mph with the 4.11's there must be something else different. Both of my mwb had the H41 tranny.

I have never seen those speeds in any of my trucks but when I say cruise I mean comfortable cruise not pushing it all. I use a program on the iphone to check the speeds. One of the things too is I am probably going to go to the 15 inch reproduction hubcap rims in the US so I can buy NEW rims. I think I am getting vibration on the older rims (plus some of the trucks have the great looking but heavy 16 inch splits and 7.50 x 16 bias ply tires). My quickest truck was 4 speed 4.11 and easily did 60 to 65 mph due to 33 inch tires (and header and 2.5 inch exhaust) but it had mud tires and a soft top so it started flapping at that point!

But yes so far 65 mph to 75 mph would be warp speed for me! I do have a 5 speed olive FJ43 coming soon though!

Here she is...

Speaking of rims this Olive one has Hilux 16 inch barrels with 15 inch Toyota centers to get the hubcaps on it yet do a 265/75/16 tire which I think is the perfect size for these trucks. same as we did in the avator on the red truck in my photo. We had to put a few weights on them though to balance them and I am not sure but I may just give up and do the 15 inch new rims with probably 31 inch tires. I much prefer the taller and skinnier metric tire on the 16inchers.

This olive one was a full repaint and new interior. We spent several months on it. Once this truck clears out we will process the yellow and red FJ43s I listed here. Should not take us long though because they are already painted and have new tops.

Needs torpedo lamps, hubcaps, exhaust, AC and some details.

Yes. 4.11s. No idea why I keep saying 4.10s. I have driven the trucks up the 8000 foot mountain road and you need all the gearing you can get. Goes from 4000 to 8000 feet in about 40 minutes. The H41 trans has a huge gap between 2nd and 3rd going up that mountain. The stronger 2Fs and the one I had with the header will stay in 3rd and zoom up the mountain. I had one that stayed in 2nd which was rough.

The red FJ43 soft top listed here for sale is getting a new top and interior. Needs a bunch of details still but it is moving forward. New top is done.
