My name is Rick , An Aussie who recently moved to Christchurch,NZ (all of 3 weeks ). As am bit of an outdoors freak , adventure , etc and the snow capped mountains,hills are really close by . And to re-educate/advance myself career wise , thru tertiary/University ( A Carpenter by trade who is well and truly over being on the tools )
Just bought a 89' series 70 SWB cruiser prado , actually pick it up next week . it has a 2LT engine and the usual stuff , have to wait till i get it & then will know , was seeking a reliable & economical 4x4 for a daily driver and upgrading some stuff for offroad ability, the 1st mod will be a rear locker & possibly a front lsd , then bigger tyres , R&P's to suit , engine upgrade, etc.
( My last 4x4 was a Jeep 68' J200 ( j-truck ) project had a AMC360, but was going to drop in a 4BT cummins & ZF 6 speed, dana 60 rear 7 & 44 front , before that was an 82' FSJ, then had an International ex-army 4x4 personal carrier, 6 cylndr perkins diesel, 20,000 lbs PTO winch , 1200 x 20 nato tyres )
I dropped the J-truck project in favour of not settling for second best , my all time fave is a MOG ( Unimog ) and theres a fair few Ex army versions in NZ going really cheap , `in the next few years will saving up will have my all time fave " 1300L Unimog - OMC366A , 8 or 21 speed box , hub reduction , F&R diff locks & coil sprung standard , full hydraulic's & air .
