Howdy,
I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Robert and recently acquired a locked 80. I used to own a 1989 FJ62 and a 1964 FJ40 but have been Cruiserless for 4-5 years or so. Way back then I sorta hung with the old Carolina Cruisers crowd. I do know RK, he sold me some springs for my 40; and WorldCruiser was nice enough to haul out a bunch of early 40 stuff that I did not need many moons ago.

I live in Durham with my wife and two young boys, 1 and 3. I have been in NC since 2000 and we came from the frozen tundra of Minnesota. I graduated from State in May with a B.S. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at the tender young age of 35. My wife recently completed a PhD. at UNC (somehow, we still get along). She works at UNC and I work for a small engineering consulting firm in Raleigh.

I'd like to think that I am somewhat skilled mechanically and I do have a decent set of tools. I have always been too poor to hire a mechanic so I did it myself and still do it now. Whether it be an oil change or an engine swap, I enjoy getting greasy.

Anyhow, I miss hanging out with Cruiserheads and want to get back into the fray. I will probably not get too hardcore with the 80 as it is too nice (at least for me it is). But I will take it out and get it dirty.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Here is some porn. More can be seen here:

Hi Robert and welcome back to the fold! That is a very nice 80!!!!!!!!!! We have a ton of stuff going on, so be sure to check in here frequently and hopefully we'll get to meet up soon!

Welcome aboard Robert, glad to see you make it over here. With a little PM and some sliders and you will be more than ready to join us for some trail time.

I think youll find ONSC to be a great group of guys and gals and we could probably even find it in our hearts to forgive your wife :D I have some friends that just moved from RDU to Minnesota and miss it dearly already, something about 8 months of white. Congrats on the BAE degree, those classes worked me and my less than stellar math skills to the brink of insanity........and i took them as electives, doh.

wait, did you say you enjoy engine swaps? Ill have to learn your favorite food and beverages :):):)

Let me clarify, as to avoid portraying myself as some mechanical god. The engine in my old Civic beater died. I found a VTEC motor of the same vintage and swapped it. It is literally plug and play, just swap out the ECU and add the wiring for the VTEC solenoid and bingo. Civics are pretty simple to work on.

I am one of these unfortunate souls that only has a POS shed to work out of. My idea of a comfort is maybe having a refrigerator box to lay on when under a car. I would KILL for a concrete slab. I would sell my kids for a garage.

aha we sound all to similar.

only motor swap here was in a civic as well. Work out of a shed, love my osb for wrenching on, and would sell one of you kids for a garage too. :D

BTW if you heat that bumper cap carefully it will pop right back out to form.

Good to see another CruiserHead Waterfowler in the area (I'm just assuming based on your handle).

Welcome!

Welcome! Glad you finally found the one you wanted:cheers:

Welcome Robert. Nice 80. Not sure what you consider hard core, but with the setup you have you should be able to take on anything in our area.

What OME setup do you have (mediums, heavies,???)? Your truck looks similar to what I want mine to be... I envy you getting it with the ARB and OMEs...

I would consider 38s, no fear of body damage, exo-cages, no flares, plexiglass windows, etc hardcore.

I believe that the PO installed the OME medium setup. To be honest, the vehicle is not in my possession yet. It was a one man trip up to see it, a deposit was made, and a 2 man trip will be taken on Saturday the 24th. It is the longest 13 days EVER!
