I appreciate all of your suggestions and comments in my quest for a locked 80. As I always seem to do with cars, I bought the first one I looked at. That being said though, I do a LOT of research/shopping from my chair before I choose one to go see.

So here is the lowdown:

1996 FZJ80 120,000 miles. 3 owners. Was a lease vehicle for 75K miles of its life.
Current owner searched for 6 months and was almost as schizo as me. It was a mall Cruiser prior to him acquiring it, and, for all practical purposes, is still a mall Cruiser.

It was from the Northeaset/VA but after crawling under it for a half hour and seeing many underside shots, I found it to be very clean. It appeared to be undercoated, whether from Toyota or not, I do not know.

The current owner has had it for 3 years and 17,000 miles. He only had records for when he owned it. But, he was very quick to have anything that popped up fixed, and was good on the maintenence. He had OME medium springs, shocks, caster correction, and stabilizer installed. He also installed an ARB bull bar.

The Cruiser is very clean. Everything works, including the lockers. The leather is in pretty good shape. It is starting to show cracks/wrinkles but nothing gotten too bad yet. It ran and drove great and did not miss a beat. There was no major oil slick on the underside. It will likely need a knuckle repack, the ends were greasy, but there was no clicking while turning.

We tested the lockers in a gravel parking lot. They behaved just as I figured they should if they were working correctly.

Enough talking about it, here is some porn:

She looks really good! Glad you are happy with her!

I suggest purchasing a factory service manual (not that chilton stuff) from Toyota. It will serve you well. I am envious of your factory floor mats. The last owner of mine doesn't know what happened to them.

Welcome to the addiction! ENJOY IT! There are so few of them around anymore!

Sweet! congratulations buddy. Looks very clean! what did you pay?

Uh, not quite sure if I want to say.....................aw fawk it! $9500.

I don't want to think too much about whether or not I paid too much. I figure if I did, it was only too much by a grand or so, which is more than 10%.............s*** now I am thinking that I paid too much.......dammit!

Congrats! It's nice that it already has some mods and is dang clean. That saves you a bunch of money right there. I don't think that was a bad price at all.

Do not sweat it, for you now own a cruiser, an 80 at that, the best built, best equipped, damn well best all around four wheel drive vehicle ever sold in the USA!
You will never need another vehicle. Money well spent. Congrats!

BTW... don't ever ask what I paid for mine... it still makes me sick.

Robert, it is worth what you pay for it. Don't fret.
You helped me out with this. Now I wont sell mine for less than 11k now! I figure if 120k miles is good for 9500, then my 83k mile should be good for 11.5 or 12k !

Yours will be a good truck for many years to come. Be proud buddy!

Well, there is an 80,000 mile truck in the classifieds now for $14,000. So sure, why not!

Part of me said, "the hell with it, I am tired of obsessing, I want one now!" That was enough for me.

But after I left (I have yet to pick up the truck, and will in 2 VERY LONG weeks) I was ridden with buyer's remorse.........I am over that now. IT IS MINE MINE MINE MINE!!

The first mod will be to black-out the wheels (probably paint, as I am now poor) and install the $350 set of used (3000 miles) 285-75x16 Goodyear MT/Rs I got yesterday.

I am happy for you buddy. It is gonna be a great rig. Some day (if I dont sell mine) we need to meetup and wheel some where.

Congrats on the rig. Don't sweat the price. You got some bling (ARB & OME Lift) to go with it that is worth at least $1,500. Enjoy!

That price isn't bad. I just got mine for around that and it had 101k on the clock but didn't have the lift and tires.

Congrats :flipoff2:

Clen and not a bad price. It looks like a great rig.
