I've been doing some searching but have not found the direct answer yet. I have a new to me m416. From the data plate I believe it is a 78 with surge brakes and the small hub grease caps. I want to retain the surge brakes and hand brake but would like to swap the hubs for 6 lug Toyota to match my fzj80 series. From my searching it seems it is possible on the later models but I have not found any part numbers or resources. Anybody done this swap on the later M416?

BTW - I don't want to swap the whole axle just to get the 6 lug at the cost of canning the surge brake and hand brake. Thanks

If I were you, I would take the hub into a place that sells trailer axles and parts. Show them what you have and what you need.

Trailer spindles are pretty common sized. The hubs are different depending on what bolt pattern you want. I just did this on my 18' car hauler.

I will be switching the hubs on my SPEN trailer to chevy 1/2 ton - Toyota bolt pattern.

Redneck trailer supply is a good resource. But I have found major hardware stores/farm supply store carry them as well.

I've also read that if you have the smaller hub caps, that the bearing sizes are the same as the CDN M101 and you can use those aftermarket 6 lug hubs.

I can't confirm this, but I feel like I've read it somewhere...

Prolly end up doing just that but the nearest trailer shop is about an hours drive away. Just trying to get my ducks in a row before making the drive down there.
