Another lift question thread

I really like the look of 1911's FJ40 with the 4" lift and 33's. So I am leaning back towards that.

Just read this thread for the first time. My springs are actually 3" lift by Alcan, though I did end up running longer-than-stock shackles on the rear to level it out. My rear quarters were also cut by a PO, :crybaby: so I didn't have to worry about clearance there.

Alright, I started the install and hit a few snags, but I got the rear springs on so that's good.

  1. Bent front shackles. The PS shackle is bent. The DS bent up so I couldn't get the nut off. I had to cut the shackle off.
  2. The PO hit something hard with the front spring u-bolt plate and shackle. I had to cut the u-bolt off to get to the nut. I think I can bend/hammer it back.
  3. The rear shocks I ordered for a 40 with a 4" lift are too long. I cannot install the when they are fully compressed and the suspension is in full droop.
  4. I cannot get the front DS spring hanger pin removed due to the exhaust manifold being in the way. I Cannot swing a hammer in that tight of a space. any advice?
So I need new shackles it looks like. I was going to use the factory ones to test what length I needed. Looks Like that is not an option for me. Does anyone know what length of shackles I need for a 4" lift?

Alright I've crossed a few things off the list, but I have some more questions (surprise surprise)

Does anyone know the correct compressed length for a shock with a 4" lift off the top of their head? I need new shocks and I have the full droop measurement. I just cannot get the compressed length right now due to the front suspension not being on the rig. I cannot flex out the back end correctly. Can I just take the stock length and add 4" to it?
