James Krieger 'Woodsman" dropped by tonight for dinner en-route to the Ouray FJSummit..

He also happened to have a single drawer system for me! Thanks James..

The craftsmanship on this drawer is really incredible.

Now what to put in the drawer??

Outer dimensions are: 37x22x11

Inner dimensions are : 35x18x9

If you can't figure out what to put in the drawer, send it to me! I'll fill it up!:D
Nice knowing a finish cabinet maker...

Figured out where to store everything last night, having 3 dividers creating 4 separate spaces really helps.

Next he will build me the platform that extends off the drawer for sleeping.

I added carpet to the top of the drawer over lunch (;)) today. Really hesitant to spray sticky glue on the drawer but wanted to make sure it stayed put and protected the hand crafted drawer.

And I made a platform for sleeping that I covered with carpet also.

I am no carpenter but I am happy with the way it came out. Really simple but functional and clean..

Instead of the eye bolts you could use D ringd or some sliding channel to hold your fridge down, makes it a lot easier to throw something else in the back when the fridge isn't there.

Totally agree but this was a quick fix and low cost.

I think James is designing a low drawer slide for me, like the ARB set up only it will have the same custom wood feel as his bigger drawer.

That looks very nice, very clean.

Nice craftsmanship!

Still difficult for me to see how some drawers will be better than some Pelicans

Agree to a point, but unless you plan on bolting your pelicans to the floor, built-in drawers are a much safer way to carry recovery gear, tools, and anything else that likes to become a missle during an accident or rollover.

A few pelicans in the back just turn a bunch of small missles into a few bigger ones. ;)

Not to mention locking drawers are great for keeping valuables secured while out and about...

Chris, drawer looks good. Simple, functional, and the slider looks beefy. Even your carpeting looks pretty slick. :D

Yep agree, Fuzz thanks for the kudos..

I used to have plastic tubs stacked, one for pots/pans, one for food, one was a junk tub (you know stuff you use or think you need...

With the drawer, I was able to consolidate all that into 4 sections. Pots/pans one section, food another, junk drawer first section, I have a 4th section that will figure out what it is for when I go on my next trip..No giant throne anymore, use a PET..What was I thinking??

Total bonus on the locking latch, did not think of that before but I keep my Go Pro in there and if I want to lock up other valuables, I can.

Also I used to pull the tubs out to sleep in the 4runner, now I just place the seat down, drop the platform in and sleep, everything is tucked away neatly.

I can see why folks want a 2 drawer system.. James was here for dinner last night on his way back to Indiana from a few extra days in Colorado and Utah..

We talked about a similar type drawer/fridge slide to the ARB low drawer set up.

And sounds like he is doing our cabinets for our kitchen remodel, so maybe this fall I will have the next drawer mod to share.

Just curious, have you had a chance to weigh your drawer system?
Wonder what it weighs...

I'm thinking about making mine out of aluminum for weight and durability, but nothing beats the look and feel of wood! Also better sound deadening.

Too hard to open a pelican when it's properly secured and under a dog crate and or fridge slider. Drawers can also offer much grater security.
At least that's why I want drawers instead of all the cargo boxes I use now.

Boxes are definitely great for roof top or truck bed use though and are generally more versatile as you can take them rafting for instance.

Obviously we need both!

I would take a properly built drawer system over a pelican anyday if i had an SUV.

I hated the pelican in my old 2nd gen 4runner.. Now i have your classic toolbox in my 3rd gen pickup. But i am soon getting a 1st gen 4runner and it will no doubt have a good drawer system in the back. Nice drawer!! :D
