As CJmoon said, check the lift pump. $40 part bolted to the side of the motor and it sounds like a big knock like that...

You don't really... When they start hammering, they can still pump correctly. The hammering sounds like rod or fuel knock and is very difficult to isolate where it's coming from. Just run down to NAPA and get a new one. 30 minute project...

Lol not in Canada, cheapest I can find is $65 and a week shipping.
I was thinking pull the hose off the pump from the tank and put a 3/8" hose from the pump into a can and see if it improves.
I'll take it in this week to get the timing advanced.

Meh I bought a cheap used motor off kijiji, if it is pooched I'll part this one out for as much as I paid for it and drop another one in, or use this one as a core and get a rebuilt one.
The trouble is this may have been my last full weekend off, turkey season starts tomorrow and salmon fishing isn't far off.

So I got nervous about the noise and took it over to a diesel shop, the foreman assured me that it's nothing to worry about, he called it broom syndrome! He knew a lot about dodge cummins and ISX cummins, so I left the truck there to get the pump timing advanced to 14.5 degrees and maybe I'll adjust the AFC and drive it until it breaks. Good news!!!!

couple of questions for you:
1)there were two sensors on the DS....One plugs into the rear engine block on the 90* Street Elbow, but where does the other go?
2)how did you end up wiring the A/C Pump? and can you take a couple of pictures of the back of it for me? I want so see how you're plumbed it up.

thanks and good work!

This is the modified harness I got from Dustin.
Ground goes to starter, red wire goes to VE Pump, big connector is redundant, sensor connector on my fingers go to 90* street elbow and the sensor connector on my thumb I can't figure out.
Dusting said its for the AC shutoff but that doesn't make sense.....for one it doesn't reach, second it's a different connector and third: as per his instructions it hooks up to what looks to be a temperature sensor!

so that plug goes to the ac cutout switch. it is an over temp safty. I dont remember where it was on the toyota block but in this pic thats my fuel filter and the hard line going down goes to the lift pump.

AC system is like this and the low pressure side of the manifold I could not get to i had to do a bit of body work to get to it :bang: AKA channel locks to grab sheet metal and bend.

oh and that air box fits like crap! it hits my washer bottle and my cruise control controller.

anything else ya need let me know.

Guess I'll plug that in on mine.
I picked the truck up from the shop yesterday, the pump timing is advanced to 14*, runs a little better. The biggest difference I noticed was the boost pressure rise sooner.
Gonna take it on a 400km round trip this weekend hope I make it back in one piece!

Thank you Cnorm!
How did you wite it up?
The pump has a two wire connector and the Toyota connector has 3 wires

3 wires ?! mine only had one from Toyota. the dodge is a hot and ground. I just clipped off the dodge connector and put a ring terminal on one wire and connected it to the little wire clip screw on the back of the pump and the other a spade connector and the cut off the Toyota plug and put a female spade connector on it.
