I've seen so many questions about leaf springs for 60 series and I'm guilty in the past of re-asking the same old questions. But, I have done a search before posting this and can find nothing related.
I ordered a set of aftermarket leaf springs for my HJ62. I have given the job of fitting them to a friend, since he is out of work and has more time than me and could do with the money. Yesterday I got a call to say that he had taken off the front leaf spring and compared the origional to the replacement. The origional has more bend in it (I recall he called it 'set' but don't know if this translates across the world) Anyway, the replacement spring is flatter than the used Toyota one. He thought he could see a problem since, in his opinion, the new spring would be less able to sustain the weight of the truck.
So this morning I took the replacement springs back to where I got them and went somewhere else to get a different make (these are UK made aftermarket springs not OME or any internationally recognised brand) I took one of the Toyota springs with me to compare the new spring to. The sales guy produced a set of springs for a 60 - I compared them to the origional Toyota spring and again the Toyota spring has more bend in it.
The sales guy told me that Toyota leaf springs are designed to bend under weight to give a comfortable ride. According to him, his springs which appear flatter - will not bend so much and therefore they will support the weight of the truck and not sag.
Does this sound likely or is he pulling my plonka?
