In a previous post, I'm getting the P401 fault, ordered new parts from Onur, realized that I was over half-way to taking the head off with the intake off, I've decided to replace the head gasket before I'm forced to. The FZJ80 has 165k on it, had 2 overheating "events", one during sustained speeds in the heat with AC on, the other when my radiator let go at the top tank. Neither exhibited signs of coolant in the oil including an dye kit from autozone.

Yet, my car Kharma has not been great and I'll be needing reliable transpo for when I'm not riding the moto. So, away I go, tearing into the beast, slowly but surely, taking a crap load of pics along the way. Burned a ream of paper printing the FSM, IdahoDoug is sending a fresh copy of his DVD, no fear with all that kind of info at the ready.

I dropped the PSI on the front tires to zero, considered taking the hood off but I'm not supposed to change my oil in the driveway. Been spraying everything with PBlaster, friggen hoses are the worst. I'm sure little will be gained by another head gasket thread, mostly just want a venue to whine on as I go through mine...

Subscribed. Looking forward to the pics! PO did mine at around 130K, so it's probably due again soon since I'm close to 300K now...

You might really want to think about the hood deal also when you get ready to pull the head. It can be done left on as i did that my first time, but i pull them now as it makes it soo much easier while pulling the actual head off. You taking the head to the shop for a complete go thru ? I would.

This is who I have had great service with for about 10 years now and a few dozen shipments of injectors.

Turn around time is a week. That is from my shipping to them on a Monday I will have them back the following Monday.

Got through last meetings, MD appt's and other stuff so I could get back to the project. Taking a lunch break, only got the throttle body off, all those f'n hoses & connectors are what kills me. My hand strength and dexterity just don't work well enough to make those things easy. However, got it out without too many issues.

Yet, clearly needed after looking at the throttle body and inside the intake air chamber. Just a bit of carbon build up to clear out...

Next up, those nicely placed nuts & bolts to remove the intake air chamber. I'm guessing going through the driver's side wheel well the easiest way to get to them. Lot's of extensions and wobble joints look to be in my future...

Yup, that's them. I need to put a rubber band around my wobble extension, it's too loose for me to get it seated well with the 2 extensions I need to reach it.

Thinking of removing the starter to get a bit more space in there but I'll try to get to it this am before I get that desperate.

Hoping to get this off so I can get the injectors in the mail today since they'll take a week or so to get back.

The electrical tape trick works very well.
