I came across a factory steering wheel, off of a Cdn BJ70. I thought it was a perfect match to replace the aftermarket steering wheel put on my JDM BJ71 by a previous owner.

Hello, I see the factory altimeter in the background of one of your photos and wanted to know if you have the setting tick set on 1013mb's? My owners manual is in Japanese and the portion on the altimeter is not self explanatory.
Thanks...1978HJ45

The raised ridge on the plastic steering column cover is the only thing stopping it from fitting (pic is of BJ74) . I suppose I could cut it down but fear I might brake one of the two column halves in the process. The other option is finding and using using the the Cdn column covers but I have a feeling it is not going to work for another reason I haven't discovered yet.

The holes for the indicator and washer/wiper stick are different.

i wonder why they are different
i put a 1990 + on my old 89 fj75 to replace the wheel as the later ones you cant see the metal between the horn and wheel

Hopefully, I am understanding your query properly.

One changes the setting to suit a known elevation, say your driveway at home or a place you pass frequently enough to reset your indicator. It will change hourly (given a huge storm coming to your area) to daily due to barometric changes, as that is all that an altimeter really is, a barometer that has been calibrated for elevation instead of pressure.

I am hoping that was your query.

I realize my question was somewhat off subject and I appreciate you taking time to answer. .............1978HJ45

I can take a look at the ones I have here. I have a brown wheel from a 1987 LJ71 which might be the one you need

i have never looked but can you not unscrew the backing plate mount and swap them? just a guess.

thanks for posting this up, i never knew... interesting.

The backs do unscrew , same prob when using a 60,s wheel on a 70 , just swap the backs .
Dave

I don't have a backing plate to swap it with. The grey wheel off my BJ74 is just for comparison photo's and the after market wheel that was on my BJ71 obviously does not have the backing plate.
