An offer to my new found friends....

Those are very good points Brian. I hope that the members of the CSC are responsible enough not to go out and destroy prestine wilderness just to say that they have been down that road!

My main objective for the maps is to allow people who are responsible folk to have a nice map of our state. Just as mentioned before, any FS roads maps that can be bought @ any 4x4 shop or book store are the same thing, these are just a wall mount version.

I hope no one takes this as the Wonka Golden Ticket of destruction and mayheim. That would sadden me if I found out I was directly somehow responsible for others actions. Perhaps, before maps go out, the CSC members could offer up this @ the meeting and see what the general opinion would be.

... I hope that the members of the CSC are responsible enough not to go out and destroy prestine wilderness just to say that they have been down that road! ...

It's not CSC members that I'm worried about, I have zero problem with making a map and may want one.

My caution had to do with posting direct info on relatively unknown/little used trails. Say you find a cool trail, looks like few run it, it's clean, nice, etc. If you post GPS coordinates, map screen shots, etc, don't expect it to stay nice for long! At one time forums were relatively private, now they are Google indexed, so the "guest factor" has shot way up.

I have zero problem with "newbies", have met very few that I wouldn't trail ride, share info with, but have a problem with "publicly broadcasting" some info. There are less prime, clean trails every year and publicizing them doesn't make any sense to me? Yes most are already posted, are on maps, etc, but that requires research, getting lost, etc, so maybe only more responsible off-roaders will make the effort. In other words, why make it too easy for the masses?:hillbilly:

I get PM's/emails from new forum members (zero post count) asking for GPS coordinates, maps, etc for trails that we have run. My reply is something like; we plan to run that trail soon, your welcome to come, or our meet is next week, stop by and we will talk, etc. Never has one shown up, or even posted on Mud, if they can't even make the effort to post-up, their not getting the info from me.

I agree, the initial pictures I posted were for examples only - not to be used for trips. No one has asked me for any GPS coordinates, nor would I give them to just anyone if asked. I am in the same boat you are in and because of this resource, don't want to create any waves or issues within the club. As I stated before, I only showed information which could be obtained from any Backroads book or trail guide available for purchase.

I hope everyone understands, this is only something offered to CSC member.

Thanks!

Well, I have been very busy with work and just finished up the move to the new house. I spoke with Clark tonight and will be working to get some exports out from the program. The few trials I have done have created individual file sizes of 200 MB each. I think I may be able to get the entire state on a 8 GB DVD. We'll see.....

When tempted to talk about the places I've found, I remember 4 Peaks. Kevin was there. A few people went regularly, but it was little-known. It was a beautiful place with great views and cool weather, real close to the city. We all talked too much. We should have kept quiet.
In a few years, there were ATV's everywhere. The place was crowded. Litter was a problem. There were idiots driving trucks over the side in winter, wrecking the trees. Soon after the place was burned to a crisp! I learned.
Providing maps to club members is a great service. Let's just keep the best places close to the vest in public forums.

Sorry for the delayed post regarding this everyone!

UPDATE: I have been working to export area's to disk. For some reason when I select an area it's erroring out on the save to file. I have tried all different shapes and sizes and no luck. I am going to try and see if it's the EPS V3 or all file formats in general. Just wanted to let you know that I haven' forgotten about ya!

I thought I had edited my post. Apparently not. Providing maps to club members is appreciated. I may call you on that dvd when you are done with it. What you are doing is a great service. Just, please be careful where you allow the info to go.
There are far too many who will trash the special places. More importantly, the morons tend to burn down the best hideaways.
In my short time, I have seen Four Peaks, Seven Springs, Black Canyon, the Rim Country and the Crown King area all go up in smoke. I have also watched as much of the Rim Country burned out. I am heartbroken! I am adverse to telling the morons how to reach the back country.
If you know about a special place, I hope to hear about it. But I would rather have my daughter find it than to have it burned out due to too much publicity.
Thru our avatars and profiles, we have a pretty good idea of who lives where. Lets keep the details of the best trails quiet. PM me when you are running a trail within reach of Prescott. I will try to join you, but please do not tell the general public. They cannot be trusted.

I agree Brian. This offer is strictly to the CSC clan only. I will not attempt to sell nor distribute these maps to anyone other than the local Cruiser group. I have seen the desert's around my house. Disgusting is a conservative term. The trash and piles of crap that lazy people leave behind is enough to cause any one of us to join Green Peace. These S.O.B's are too lazy to take it to the damn dump - I have no respect for them! Sometimes, I just feel like sitting out by a local piece of prestine desert and holding on to a .30-.30, just waiting to see the next truck load of couches, palm trimmings or worse - hazardous waste - and pick off shots of their tires and trucks!

I am not wanting to speed up the process of the destruction. Just trying to and provide info to those who are responsible and trustworthy.

Stepping off my soapbox now.......

John

I wasn't awake @ 1:45am - so I can call sometime today. I did get your PM BTW!
