Please not the last analysis at the top is with 15W40 Rotella T not 5w40 Rotella T6.
Everything except the T6 is dino Rotella T. Synthetic was a test. I figure the lighter weight doesn't provide the protection as the 15W oil....

What weight is recommended for the Toyota diesel variants? I'm looking at the Amsoil as well. Also, which engines specifically are you running this in @ForealBoreal? 1HZ?

Which engine, and what climate? There are tables in the service manuals for most models that can answer this once we know where to look.

1HZ (NA) New England climate.
This is what I see in the 1HZ Toyota FSM. 15w-40 looks like a good candidate, which type of Amsoil, ya'll using? I'm thinking of DME.

10w-30 has a pretty wide operating range, and also provides another -5F protection more than the 15w-40, which has a pretty narrow operating temp range. The "temp range" specified here is the ambient outside temp?

I'm running 5w40 Rotella T6, winter here gets down to -36C, summer gets up to 36C, so a wide range of conditions.

So which engine? I'd hate to look at your sig and assume its a 1hd-t. 5w-40 isn't even on the 1HZ FSM graph.

It is the 1HD-T, its possible 5w40 weight didn't even exist when these manuals were printed, lol.

SAE 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel and Marine Oil

I tried multiple oils. This is what I currently run and probably will continue to run.

I tried Rotella 10w-30 Dino, 5w40 synth and 15w-40 Dino

I'd happily run 15w-40 rotella dino again. It was good oil. Other ones at least for my 1HZ I didn't like my lead numbers. I change my oil every 5000km. No extended intervals with a 1HZ as it's an IDI and it gets dirty quick.

If the change intervals are the same for synth over dino, are you guys not spending a lot of extra money? Or are you seeing benefits that make the added expense of synthetic worthwhile? Over a decent oil like 15-40 Rotella?

I use Rotella T6 5-40 in the following:
Toyota B
Cummins 6BT
03 Jetta TDI
IH 7.3
Diesel Mule
Push and riding movers
Generator

No problems and Blackstone Labs hasn't said to change anything on any of my reports. I like to keep one oil around for everything. Only thing that doesn't get it is the wife's 4Runner which calls for 0-20. Haven't looked up anything about 0-20 since she just got the truck.

The amsoil premium 15w 40 synthetic Is well within spec after 10000kms on my truck. Usually change at 5000km intervals with any oil except for testing, 10000kms is as far as I can bring myself to leave it in for.

The shell 15w 40 goes to about 8000km before signs of degrading

I run the shell due to cost and availability in Australia .
