Would someone with an Ammeter be able to check the current draw from the heater fan on a FZJ80? Ideally the draw at all speeds and the rear heater also on both hi and low. This will help tremendously with my auxiliary heater project! cheers

if you are going to be doing electrical work you should get yourself a good Digital Multimeter, fluke is a good brand

Yeah should've bought that the first time around. Got a Craftsmen, blew the fuse and can't locate a replacement anywhere. The Craftsmen parts service says they are no longer made and they can't help me but they still sell the same model meter at Sears Hardware. The manager at the local branch is frustrated with me after all my bitching.

BTW, thought there was a reason that a specific ammeter is a better tool to use. I still need this reading if anyone is able to do it...thanks

Sorry man, I completely forgot. BTW, couldn't you track down the fuse for the heater and get a general idea of what it draws from that? Seems like that might be easier, as I have no idea where to tap into the system to check the amps, and my multi-meter only goes to 10-amps before it blows a fuse. I have a feeling that heater draws more than 10 amps.....

This is a tough question. As with all electrical motors, the current draw will spike up when the fan is first switched on then will drop down. Even if someone tapped into the system at the right spot, and got a measurement for you, it would be below the peak surge for startup current. Also that would be so difficult to do that I doubt anyone would be able to do this without major beers.

Also a digitial meter probably wouldn't even display the surge startup current.
Sorry I wasn't much help.

I tyred this before with my multi-meter and blew the 10 amp multi-meter fuse. Now I can't even replace the fuse as Craftsmen no longer makes it and I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement elsewhere. It is for this reason that I asked someone with an AMMETER to check this thinking that it would require such a tool. I am really interested in the constant draw and not as much in the initial surge but it would be interesting to know these numbers also. I'll do my best to return a favor to anyone who is able to get this. Cheers
