Im getting an amp and sub setup from my nephew's old car. Just wondering where you guys have mounted your amps. I am thinking either under the driver's seat or behind the panel on the pass side cargo area.

Just looking for some feedback.

Thanks, Hodag

if those 2 are the coices, i recommend under the seat. although it will be at risk of possibly getting kicked by passengers, being in the cargo area will be like an oven to kill the amp.

I've got mine under the passenger seat. It is out of the way, and close for wiring in to the head, but when you  and get water in the cabin it can lead to some hissing and popping till things dry out.

Who knew you could suck water when the oil pan is still dry?

Is it anymore likely to get overheated under the passenger seat with the rear heater being right there (FJ60)? Or will it even fit? Any problems being under the driver's seat?

I thought the rear might get warm, and probably have more vibration too.

Thanks for the feedback.

Mine was installed in the cargo area. Behind the Drivers side panel. It was there when I got it so I just hooked up speakers and it all worked. This is a pretty big Sony Xplod amp with equalizer. I am not sure it would fit under the seat. I have had no problems with it for 3 years.

I should clarify that mine is in a 62 (so the heater is under the center console, not the pass seat).

I have my amp under the drivers seat, and it is perfect there! I would not put it under the pass seat because of the rear heater. Also so as not to put screw holes in the floor I placed a small piece of plywood under the carpet and put the carpet back down and screwed the amp over the carpet into the plywood.

mine would be under the back seat but thats mine, no room under driver seats w/ the tool kit and rear heat. don't leave the seat folded down for long trips b/c of the air flow problem. you don't want to jack up the back part of the bench with a hot amp. then how would you be able to cruz the high school with out your hot REO speed wagon thumpin.

Ive had several amps in my 60 through high school and it always ended up either under the driver seat or under the rear bench seat.
Either worked out great. Each install depended on how much wire was available;p
I liked it better under the drivers seat though.
It was easier to put my hand under the seat and feel how hot/cool the amp is. Also I felt it was cooler under the front seat and I needed all the cooling I needed cause Fosgates like to run hot.

You know my amp is an older "Coustic" amp and it seem slike it get's hot faster than newer amps?

Wouldnt surprise me.
Does it get REAL HOT REAL FAST?
Does it ever get so hot that it cuts out?
You might have a bad ground.

YES it does get so hot that it will cut out! However that takes about an hour (sometimes less) of cranking the music. But it is annoying on longer road trips when it cuts out due to heat. You think that it's just because it's an old amp?

i have 3 12's in the back of my rig... and the amp is mounted to the side of my box. i found it was the easiest mounting location.

Note to self: Avoid water when there's plenty of dry land on either side of puddle. ;) And add galoshes to list of items to keep in the cruiser.
