Hey Guys,

Im almost ready to wrap up buying this 100 tomorrow:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/3557090864.html

If you take a look at the rear of the car, is it me or does the exhaust tip stick out too much? Has it been altered in any way?

I ran a carfax and it came out clean.

Thanks

California does not mean rust free!!! Mine has been in California its entire life and I still have to fight rust.

There was a 2004 100 with 24000 miles FS in Southern Ca I passed on due rust on the undercarriage. It wasn't rusted through, but had more than I would have liked.

In the process of buying the almost identical 100 out of Fl. I had them send pics of the undercarriage and it had much less rust. Not completely rust free, but less.

From the CL pics, this one looks comparable to what I am buying at the same price (minus the warranty I purchased).

Good luck.

Maybe they had it replaced...you got a carfax on it right?

Exhaust work would not necessarily show on a Carfax. It depends where a car is repaired.

I trust you (harry) have seen and driven the truck right? At that price maybe gotten it checked out by a mechanic?

I ran a Carfax and everything came up clean, too clean. It was regularly serviced at a Toyota dealership and everything the seller told me matches up with the Carfax.

The car had a aftermarket tow hitch installed outside the dealer, so maybe during the installation process, since the hitch was aftermarket, parts of the exhaust had to be moved for the hitch to work ?

I cannot think of anything else.

Yes, I drove the car and it drives perfectly. The car mainly sat in the garage. The battery was once replaced at the dealer in 08 and once again recently due to the car not being driven and battery not getting charge.

Just make sure it was not rear ended carfax is not as promising as most people think.........i would look for evidence underneath
and get a piece of mind especially for that price.........Good luck:)

Lived in Maui, cars that set out on the east side would rust because of the salt spray, if you lived on the west side not a problem with rust. You should always check for rust and you should always keep on any surface rust from the beginning and you won't have a problem down the road.

Yes it is to long, cut it down. A new muffler, tailpipe or exhaust work doesn't mean anything is wrong with the vehicle just means they might have had it changed out, who knows why rust, tailpipe was bent, worn out hardware? If there is no rust on the vehicle don't worry about it.
