Warning: Stupid question!

I rotated my dad's tires on his 1996 LC, and his book had two torque values for the lugs: aluminum and steel (I think) wheels. The aluminum was 76 ftlbs (which seems really low) and the steel called for 108 ftlbs. How can I tell if they are steel or aluminum? I always thoght they were aluminum, but he is going on a very far trip on wednesday (4,000+ mi) and I want to be sure they are torqued properly. Thank you...I had used the search, but only found cleaning info...

An easy way - if a magnet sticks to it, it is mild steel, not aluminum.

Also could look on ebay for pics of the standard rim that came with the vehicle, think they were all alum. off the line, 4,000+ mile trip, thats just about coast to coast..........wish I was going

Didn't the 93's have steel inserts in back of the aluminum wheels?

Just food for thought.

My stock aluminum wheels are torqued to 76 ft lbs. If his wheels are stock 96 then they are aluminum. 76 ft lbs is correct.
Cheers,
Sean
