New to me '91 Land Cruiser had installed two amps, four aftermarket speakers, and an 8-inch sub by the PO. Ever since I bought the truck, it seemed like the alternator has been struggling. At idle it will raise the RPM's to ~1,300, the lights will flicker, and it will be stay up there for a while. Unless I am wrong and it's something else other than alternator, I wanted to see what you guys do. I know it's possible to rebuild OEM alternator but I only see guys with FZJ80 do that, nothing on the 3FE. Is that possible? Would OEM alternator be enough to handle the music upgrades the truck has or do I need a higher output one? If not rebuilding it, are refurbished OEM alternators my next solution?
