I purchased this a while ago but can’t remember any of the details- mostly if it’s internal or external regulation?
Also, it seems like similar alternators have a little pigtail from the ‘B’ terminal (not sure what it is called) - is that necessary?

All I could find:
GM 19134077 Reman Alternator (Nippondenso Ef 55 Amps)
But no listing on specs etc
 
Google tells me that fits a1978 toyota cressida, which would make it non regulated I believe.
Do you have the original external regulator on the bulkhead?
Maybe another picture of what you're connecting it to will help

02/1976 - 12/1978 only 2F passenger side upper alternator mounting location cast iron bracket cradle set-up and all the attached parts to it ....


- This is a Externally regulated / Remote mounted type regulated alternator or ...... a
27020- for short

- it is a F.E.N.
( Field Earth Neutal ) later metal socket type with the updated latching locking type connector plug style receiver port

- you need to first and foremost take no less then 3 important photos of exactly what all you have going on here please :

- Front face of the Alternator set-up ( fan & Pullet side )

- the side side as you see from the passenger fender

- and the most important one , as nice strait in-line photo at the entire back side view ......

- mr @45Dougal has already correctly identified its a 4ME Cressida application

- @DeskJock went over all the needed basic TECH. needed to reply back here with ,,,

- the parts diagram below , and its orange highlighted
16381- Bar , is the exact one in your photo above

- the Cressida application alternator topic set off to the side for now , until all the above is sorted out first , don't go taking it all apart again ....

Can thank everyone enough for taking the time to help.
I think the biggest confusion/ clarification was the internal/ external regulation question.

so to back up: this is a 10/71 build with a ‘76 2f engine/ drivetrain. When I got the vehicle, it had the original drivetrain and wiring with the exception of a Chevy HEI distributor. Along with the original harness was a voltage regulator (crudely wired in with home wiring).

Over a decade ago, when I started this ‘restoration’, I’d like to remember that I was going to simplify the wiring with a 1-wire, internally regulated alternator but apparently I either purchased the wrong unit or decided otherwise.

Here was my other concern (fully showing my auto charging ignorance):
Most of the alternators listed for this engine have an external pigtail (not sure what it is called) - is this something I need?

@ToyotaMatt can provide you the best help. He helped me with my needs.

When there is one wire coming out of the alternator- I think that typically means internal regulator.

That plug setup on the back of your looks like same as my alternator- which puts out the 3 different voltages that the voltage regulator wants to see.

If that is an alternator is a plug and play aftermarket alternator- the factory service manual can walk you thru the wiring.

The condenser that your questioning - its purpose is to ground any alternating current to reduce noise in your wiring harness. With a modern radio - probably not needed. Both of my condensers ( capacitors) were removed by the previous owner - and I don’t miss them.
