watrob,

What did thos Mickey's cost you... those would be my number one choice but I bet they are pricey...

Hi JDCruiser,

Yeh they were'nt all that cheap as I went for the larger size, they are close to a 34" x 12.50 and there on 16" rims not 15". Cost me $320.00 each fitted.

If you got the 15" you would get them for around $290 each I reakon.

One other thing, considering there on alloy rims there very heavy, I think there 6 ply side walls.

I think the my rebuild FJ40 will wear out before the tyres will?

WOW  $320. Crikey.. ouch.. x5.. hope they wear well
And here I was thinking $220 was my limit. Still thinking about those Savas though.. did some searching and got mixed results as I suppose you would.. different people different opinions..

Yeh I know, In the cost of things this rebuild is not cheap anyway. So since I don't have any labour costs in the rebuild I figured and I am spending all this monry to do the rebuild properly, putting a cheap set of tyres on ( don't get me wrong when I say that) thought of defeated the purpose so to speak.

If it was a DD I certainetly would go with a $150-$220 tyre definetly.

PS. I got the alloy's cheap, around $170 each 16" x 8" and they have platnium painted finish, well I reckon they were cheap anyway, last set left, bought 5, think this design is from 2-3 years ago, had alot of trouble finding painted alloys to suit a FJ as it will be on beach and normal mag wheels would pit and go off colour to quickly.

I hate having to polish & buff mags to keep them in go shape all the time. Plus the rim lip is domed so the beach sand won't lay in the rim causing out balance problems, it will just fall out, I hate having to scoop the sand out so you don't have vibrations.

Yeah, good point watrob. I made a similar argument to "her indoors" about the extra $900 I'll be spending on a new set of springs. It'll be the DD thus the not wanting an over expensive tyre that doesn't grip on wet tarmac as well. It's about compromise.. budget vs safety vs offroad grip..
