I regret not sharing my build because Ive spent so much time here apreciating everyone else's...but if its not too late Id like to share a few pics with all of you who can understand what it takes to bring an east coast rig back to its former glory. I started out with a 10/75 fj40. Dosnt look too bad does it? It looked pretty good to me 1000 miles away on ebay.lol

So I started tearing it apart....rusted out floor, rear sill, fenders and quarters all chopped up, no dash, no smog stuff, wiring butchered..the list keeps going. Bought myself a painful wiring kit, some acetalene, beer, por15, some steel, and some bourbon and off I went.

Here I am 4 years of stolen time and countless packages conveniently sent to my office rather than home (really honey it hasn't cost me that much....ha ha) Notice the look I have. kind of happy yet kind of well...broken. Now Im working on my hardtop the one with the rusted out channels and the crack down the middle. Ill keep you posted.

Heres a few, thanks .

This one is of the floorboards and fuel tank support. I welded a stiffener along the box beam which had rusted out where it met the floor. I used por15 powermesh to line the pinholed areas, it actually worked pretty well.

I cut out the rear floor and welded in a peice of 3/16 diamond plate and replaced the sill with one from ccot.

Heres a pic from before the shacle reversal. I know alot of people feel its not worth the work and money but I wasnt really thinking clearly at the time (like I didnt have enough to do).

great work, you did a good thing by saving that FJ40, im glad you stuck with it, looks fantastic

That looks really nice...I'd love to see the finished inside...Looks fun for sure...

It is still a work in progress but at least shes got a dashboard now. The po had a peice of plywood with a couple holes drilled in it for cupholders. I see youre from Florence, thats where my cruiser came from. Look familiar?

I dont know where these seats came from. I wish I did cause one has a pretty good rip in it.

This weeks project: Get my hard top repaired and painted before its too cold. Its already in the forties at night.

Stripping layers of paint, the rustoleum comes off pretty easy, its the factory paint thats got the grip. I couldnt beleive someone had painted this entire truck hot pink at one point.

This crack was pretty bad but two layers of mat underneath and a layer of cloth on top stiffened it up. Im debating whether to re-glass the entire underside I havnt made my mind up yet but it will probably be decided based on how much garage time I get this week. Someone had drilled two off road lights into the top and theres some stress cracks towards the front (see one of the holes at 1:00 to the patched crack)

Nice looking cruiser!! just my 2 cents but I think I'd go for a seat with a little more upper-back support....especially in a cruiser! keep the pics coming.....its motivation for another newb (me) to get to work!:flipoff2:

No i was going to but my neighbor had some kimd of hvlp turbine system, he told me it was expensive. Its funny because I had never painted a car before but Im sure in the right hands it would have been a masterpeice. I primed it with a dupont 615 etching primer and hit it with a single stage mustard. just dont look too close unless you like the orange look ;)
