through the river and over the woods.
Ok, was in NYC today. Ill admit, i screwed up royally. was pulling out of a small underground garage, there was a car kind of in my way but i thought ied try and get it out of there anyways. Well, short story, my front bumper made friends with a yellow concrete/steel pole. Now i have a slight wrinkle in the top of the bumper on the corner near the parking light, and a flange for one of the bolts to hold the bumper on sheared at the seam since its cold out.

What do i do? Replace my bumper with a stock OEM lexus bumper or go with the ARB Sahara bar? My front bumper right now has other scuffs and marks and this mishap just pulled the last straw on the bumper.

Now, i dont go offroad much so having the armor doesnt help me there. The only reason I am considering it is because, I dont want to put my WAAG center Guard on again for a platform for my Hella 4000's. Plus, i figure if i do this again w/ the ARB, it will just brush it off with maybe a scratch of yellow. Also, i figure the ARB is better armor against stupid people who parallel park in NYC/suburbs.

One other idea was getting a bumper like I4C4LO's fabbed up along with a matching rear bumper. I dont need a tire carrier, but i need to replace the back bumper as well.

If i go with the armor, im painting it to match the truck so it looks as factory as possible, yeah right! LOL.

Can you guys give me some input to help me decide? Thanks a million.

I'd get the ARB, unless Slee has managed to get the TJM T17 (I think that's the other one I liked) to fit.

Dude, I'm just waiting for excuses to do my front & rear bumpers. If either of mine get jacked, that's the last you'll see of them on mine.

If you end up going back OE, I'd see if an 06/07 fit. Just a thought.

get a real bumper from arb or one of the other vendors here and screw that lightweight factory stuff.

EDIT:haha 6 votes now for ARB in just a few mins....

....maybe i should have posted this on clublexus too. Combine the pole #s and go from there. You guys are nuts'o on here!

Does anyone have a picture of the Sahara bar w/o the loop on? I just went through all the pictures i have saved from my internet searching and from mud and cant find a shot.

....Seven now.... ;)

ok, well if i have the OK from Hoser, SinCity, and adam im pretty close. I need Jim, snook, shotts, and maybe e9999's aproval.

Damnit, i was hoping you guys would tell me to keep it a pink panty cruiser. A few of my friends on ClubLexus want me to get the ARB too, so when we have caravans i can scare traffic out the way! Oh why did i hit that pole? LOL

I'd like to see Val take on SinCity in a head to head showdown in the desert. Like... ummm... does anyone remember Knight Rider? KITT vs. KARR...

Jog your memory :)

Ill put my money on SinCity....any man who can blast through the desert for 3+ hours and keep the truck stable enough to keep his girlfriends purse on his bumper....that takes skill.

truely amazing.....and where are my pictures sin? So 10 votes in under an hour? What does Macneill have to say on this topic?

Yes I am new here, but no brainer for me if it should happen: ARB it

ARB that ****!!!! after dropping the coin on the rig i have to save a couple bucks up, but i can't wait to get the ARB or TJM on the front of mine!

VAL's rig is where i'm headed. that rig with the black rack 1loudlx suggested would be SWEET.

jp

ARB for sure! Like the others, I can't wait for the excuse to replace my OEM's.

1LoudLX, I'm even surprised you'd consider a flimsy OEM piece of plastic! Have you been smokin' something? ARB all the way! The first thing I did after buying my rig was to order replacement front & rear bars! You're lucky it was just a pole. Could have been a deer or subcompact that blew a stop sign.

Make sure you get the P/N correct. Have the shop verify it w/ ARB in Seattle or call ARB yourself. There are two sahara bars for the LX, one for 98-7/02 and the other from 8/02 (5spd tranny)-'04. I got mine from MAF, and in their computer, the bar was listed as a 98-02 bar, but ARB said it was for a '03+. Low and behold, the instructions and label on the bar said it was for the '03+. At some point, ARB changed the P/N. The guy at MAF had two ARB P/N lists in front of him from different years and they had part numbers swapped! (98-02 and 03-04).

Uhm, already had a VW golf run a stop sign. It hit the side and bent my rear axle. I dont even think sliders could have saved that one! I did have her licence plate stuck into my running boards tho, that was funny.

If i get the bar I am most likely going to just order it from Slee...so he better get me the right bumper! And then I will most likely put it on at the garage/shop down the street from me. Im not going to have a shop here order it and install it for me though, i would get ripped big time!

Actually, now that i think about it, I would most likely get it put on at my bodyshop, since im going to have them paint it to match the C20 color code of the lower cladding. yes, its a :princess: truck.

Just make sure you read the instructions and supervise the guy at the body shop to make sure it's installed correctly! The LX bar is different from the LC bar in that there's a lip on the front edge of the body below the lights/grille and no piece of foam. Easy way I found was to thread in the six 18mm bolts w/ the inner edge of the bar over the body lip, then place a 2x4 underneath the wing and jack it up & push it in, then tighten the bolts.

Don't forget to get the fog light inserts painted...looks better.

ARB Sahara even if you don't go off-road at all..

You might need to mark your AHC sensors before fitment and adjust them back to stock height if necessary after you install the Sahara Bar.. When I had AHC, I've driven for about 3 months with stock t-bars and adjusted sensors.. I've later on installed OE T-Bars which you might want to consider as well.. I've learned about how to adjust the sensors from MUD (a special thank you to Slee  ) since the local ARB shop had no clue what I was talking about..

maybe ill just drive to colorado, get it put on and drive home....probably would cost the same as having it shipped and then installed here. LOL. Okay, so maybe its more than 800 dollars in gas, but at least ied get it professionally installed.

Whats the deal with the AHC. Do i just adjust the sensors or do i need to replace/adjust the T-Bars as well? Val/Jim...what did they have to do for your trucks?

This is a great plan. Get the front, rear and sliders on all at once. :D

Might as well get them all at if you are going to get them painted to match. The savings at the body shop will more than justify a roadtrip.

A drawer system is a practical mod for the city. :D
