Same here. 20 minutes to ride my fixie on a 6.5 miles over small mountain to the train station. The toughest is going down hill with your fixed gear spinning you as high as 120-140 cadence.

But when I drive my cruiser... ah so nice and make it MUCH MORE enjoyable.

Takes me about 45 minutes on the Fixie. The toughest part is crossing the bridge with the crosswinds and the uphill to the apex!

I get around 14-17 on the LX with the 14 being city and the 17 highway. I am running the 30/32 psi recommend on the door panel. Do you think it would help much to bump it up to 36 psi all around? Funny I get 19 mpg just normal driving in the SL and its weight is 4300lbs, kind of heavy for such a small car.

I run 32psi on all 4 tires using the stock Bridgestone HT's. Seems to do alright. They are P-rated tires, so the pressures won't be as high as with LT's. If you have the correct pressure, tread wear should be even. Tires with less rolling resistance (highway tires vs. AT's or worse, MT's) will give better fuel economy. Lighter weight tires/wheels have less rolling resistance, so you'll get up to speed faster using less throttle. Try riding a road bike w/ lightweight racing tires vs. a mountain bike w/ 2.1" knobbies. You'll see what your car has to put up with.

Driving 60-65 on highway trips I can get as high as 18. I'm in no hurry as nothing starts for me until I get there, anyway. In town, time lights, look for less congested routes, etc. Use stock size tires inflated to 32-33, checked when the tire is cool.
Don't utilize drive-thru's. Go inside for your burgers and drinks.

Draft diagonally behind a semi(preferably one driving at 55), the same way birds fly when migrating. You can really feel the draft sucking you forward. Yes, use another lane, and block traffic. Block those Tahoes & BMWs speeding in the fast lane, you are doing them a favor, saving them fuel as well. Save Earth.

How about K&N filter? I had one on my '02 2500 Suburban and '00 Trooper and got about 15 more miles per tank on each...I just ordered one for the LC, we'll see what happens...

I also do the semi-thing when possible. You can also tell there's less wind resistance since there's a lot less wind noise...everything quiets down. The added bonus is the semi kills most of the bugs for 'ya, too!

In all reality, the best way to reduce the national fuel consumption is to lower the speed limit to 60-65 and strictly enforce it, or to something absurdingly low like 55 (when you know everyone will drive 70). Here in AZ, it's 75 on the interstates, meaning most people drive 85. It's tough to drive 70mph when every else is going 85. How about this...require automakers have a large display on the dash (larger than the speedometer) that gives the fuel consumption in units more drivers can relate to, like dollars per 100 miles travelled. So at $4.25/gal @ 14mpg, the display would say $30.35 or at 18mpg, $23.61.

I'm dusting off the motorcycle.

anyone know what price a barrel of oil has to go to before it is profitable for us to start digging up Dakota, Utah etc. and processing the oil shale and telling the arabs to kiss are butts???

Canadians are already busy at extracting oil from the soil in the far north country. It requires strip mining on a gargantuan scale.

If what I heard is true, it's already there, has been for some time. I heard it was around $70/barrel.

I drive frequently at the speed limit (80 mph) on I10 in western Texas. I'm lucky to get over 14 mpg in those conditions. 80 matches the traffic pretty well, so I'd prefer not to go slower. (What's really annoying is that my Suburban got 16 mpg under the same conditions.) I have wondered how much my mpg might change if I removed the Manik brush bar, the roof rack, and perhaps even the rear air deflector. That brush bar might add quite a bit of turbulence. Does anyone have any "before and after" figures for any of these items? I know that wind deflectors can hurt a little, and that rear lip spoilers can help. The 2006 deflector looks like it might also act a bit like a lip spoiler, so maybe it cancels out.

it is ridiculous to think about our current gas price when it only cost $1 to fill up a tank in Venezuela.

Gasoline there is subsidized to pacify the people. Much of that gasoline is refined in the US. Pretty ironic.

What speed is the scangauge telling you returns the best mileage?

I have not exceeded 65 mph in the past week and half. Running 80, I must have been getting 10 mpg or worst. My tank has never stayed so full for so long.

What is the formula on actual miles driven with 285s vs stock? Is it 10% more miles than the trip odometer since the tires have a larger diameter?
